I have been working at Destination XL full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

One on One costumer interaction. More consulting then direct selling.

    Cons

Pays less then most other retailers even with partially commission based salary. Other employees can/will steal sales if given the opportunity. Sexist environment. Problem's with harassment from co-workers and store manager never addressed or resolved even after submitting written statement. The job itself is not bad, but the people and the company make working there not worth it.

I worked at Destination XL part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most customers are nice to deal with.

    Cons

I worked for DXL for over 4 years. I have watched them fail and become a company I could no longer work for. Low wages for key holders who make $7.50 to $8.50 an hour plus commission. Managers average 50k a year plus commission; expect to work 60 to 65 hours a week. No raises. If you want to make more money they tell you to sell more. Terrible managers. HUGE turn-over. Had 4 managers in a 14 month period, and about 15 associates in that same time. Demeaning and patronizing regional managers. No work life balance, especially for management. No consistency, high expectations, and no training unless you train yourself. They have lost their way and their vision. DXL started out as a good company, and has now become below average. So very sad what DXL has become. I WAS very proud to work for them, but no longer have any respect for this company.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of bad employees, and STOP letting the great employees walk out the door. A lot of the stores are failing because of upper management. Stoping blaming store level for your failures. With more stores offering big and tall clothing it is only a matter of time...........

    Pros

Working here is one of the best experiences ever. The staff is amazing and treat you like family. the opportunity and advancement options are incredible

    Cons

New to Canada so there are some setbacks at times as they are still establishing themselves

    Advice to Management

I am in management but as it's a new company in Canada we are still learning just like our associates

I worked at Destination XL full-time

    Pros

CEO now and then holds company town-halls to inform of results and direction. There is mostly an effort to ensure all points of views are heard, and efforts are made to identify all for new initiatives to ensure success.

    Cons

New marketing/digital direction is hiring new talent and bypassing existing employees. New initiatives are driven by a small, quite "cliquish" group of new hires and consultants.

I worked at Destination XL (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They tell you they want to hear new ideas.

    Cons

They only use ideas that have already been successful.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking of yourselves. Stop getting rid of people who are the heart & sole of your business. Appreciate your few remaining loyal employees.

    Pros

    The annual manager conference meeting

    Cons

The Regional and VP Regionals are incompetent in dealing with employee issues....and more! No support...they only care about themselves...karma is around your corner!

    Advice to Management

Stop judging a book by its cover (Only because one dresses fashionable doesn t mean they are good at what they do)....STOP listening to the disgruntled employees and believe in your managers...especially when these employees have had the same complaints with their previous FOUR managers! Pay attention to the patterns and perhaps you may have a manager that would want to stay...

I worked at Destination XL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not many. The remodeled stores look nice.

    Cons

It is unbelievable how incompetent their management is. All they care about are the "numbers" without taking ANY consideration of the psychographics of the area. They are constantly losing good, reliable employees because of their poor management. Instead, they keep hiring unreliable people who insist they will make the numbers but then can't handle the ridiculous pressure. This particular location is considered a "black hole" and has a very high turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

You are very foolish. LISTEN to what your employees tell you. At certain locations, customers CANNOT afford the high end items. They will never buy suits.
