I worked at Detroit Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is good. It can be a great learning environment if you choose to pursue it.

    Cons

The scheduling can be a problem for people NOT going to school for a higher degree.

    Advice to Management

Please do not give all the schedule perks to the people going to school. I went to school and worked full time and nobody gave those of us going to school at the time all the schedule preferences.

I have been working at Detroit Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The patients you care for and the coworkers.

    Cons

Before the company went from non profit status, i had found my dream job. I loved everything about working there. Since our status change to for profit. You dont feel stabe in your position, you are not appreciated no matter how hard you work. There is favoritism between managment and staff. Your outta luck if you are not one of the favorites, privledged assignment and scheduling. The health system is all about profits now not about caring for the patients. We have the cheapest supplies ever and are always understaffed or have too many patients to care for adequately. Everyday after you work a 12 hour shift you feel like a truck has hit you. Mandatory education which is fine but you have to do it on your own time at home. Moral is in the gutter and no one seems to care about the nurses. I do NOT reccomend this as a place to work.

    Advice to Management

Respect, fairness, appreciation and some love for your staff. Stop being so punitive and setting us up for failure.

I have been working at Detroit Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are no pros unless you are involved with the thuggish mentality and don't care if you sell your soul.

    Cons

DMC Care: could never get approval for diagnostics. Was told by your own doctors DMC Care will deny approvals. They were right. First month on someone else's insurance- Approved! Sounds like a lawsuit since blocking access to appropriate care.

Everyone in my department is educated and has degrees. Yet some get paid more disproportionately and they act like spoiled, bully children when something doesn't go their way. Managemnent protects these lazy, work avoiding miscreants.

    Advice to Management

Everything has been said. You know what to do. Do it. Or loose more caring, competent employees. Do better! Much better!

I worked at Detroit Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The learning experience from working with a team will to show customer appreciation daily. The unit 6 Brush was the best due to the level of patient compassion. The doctors always will to sharing his or her wisdom on the floor.

    Cons

The workforce gossip that management will feed into daily.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like you want to be treated. Think twice in firing minority women taking care of their children in a poverty area.
