I have been working at Deutsche Post DHL full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Expense account, salary, good benefits, travel for training, bonuses, ongoing formal personal development, great training management, easy to get approval for personal time, willing to pay for personal development courses/programs.

    Cons

Repetitive, no lunches or breaks, increasing responsibilities due to downsizing. The company is growing their international business and brought on many people to do so, but is getting rid of them to lean out. Union is frustrated with the fact that they left other jobs to come back to DHL, only to get occasional work. Management has to do more and more each day.

    Advice to Management

Cycle your employees through their different possible roles to cross-train them and drive down monotony.

I worked at Deutsche Post DHL full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It would be better than no job at all.

    Cons

After working for the company for 21 years they released all the original employees and contracted out all their services to the lowest bidder. Compared to UPS and FEDEX, DHL projects an image of a comparable service but in reality the product provided is inferior to the competition. If you are looking for the lowest cost and lowest quality product then DHL is the company for you.

    Advice to Management

Why would I give them advice?

    Pros

Seemingly unlimited resources for pet projects
Opportunities to work around the country

    Cons

While nice perks, wasteful and unnecessary expenditures on things such as lavish dinners and wines; unnecessary travel and no limits on spending leads to financial insolvency and ultimately leads to impacting employees in negative ways,

    Job functions very narrow

Not much opportunity to expand areas of responsibility

    Top heavy management

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the examples you are setting for employees.
Take responsibility for your own spending
Micro-managing never produces motivated employees and destroys initiative
Financial instability could have been thwarted with better management

    Pros

DHL makes use of new technologies. They provide a good salary and benefits. The facility in Scottsdale is nice.

    Cons

Management is out of touch with the business and the employees. They are still trying to figure out how to run an IT shop. Running IT as a business does not work.

    Advice to Management

Bring IT back in and stop trying to run it as a business.

    Pros

Getting involved with the latest technology.

    Cons

Upper management makes lots of bad choices. Getting a promotion requires lots of @$$ kissing. They promote people that are under qualified. Depending on who your boss is, it may not be that bad to work at DHL.

    Advice to Management

Please consult with your engineers before making a business decision. There are ways to cut corners without impacting service.
