I worked at Dewey's Pizza part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Major holidays off. 1 year "bonus" (1/52 of your total yearly salary so .019 percent.) Free food every cook shift, flexible hours. 2 year 2/52, etc. (as long as you hit at least 20 hours a week). Half off food when not working.

    Cons

Pay for the kitchen is not very competitive. Servers have attitudes and you’re treated less than by managers and front of house staff. At this job you will be working all evening shifts and become really busy for no real benefits or increase in pay. (Weekend pay would make this job so much better.) Servers contribute VERY little, get in the way of cooks by constantly asking for help reaching for things, taking things from your workstation and not replacing them, and putting in tickets wrongly while making all of the money for the hard work of the cooks. Reviews from management were never on time (supposed to be every 6 months) but pay raises were anywhere from 25 cents to 50 when you eventually got them 2 months late. Management is very about themselves and the front of house staff. You will be grieved if you request off for a busy weekend and a manager who is usually off has to cover for you. They want you to treat it like a full time job and have company values that they don't even really abide by and no longer even mention. Maybe a good job for a high schooler, but they'll pay you as low as possible and you're better off finding a job that pays more or that has less work for how serious they want you to be about the company and working almost entirely evening shifts anyways. There is also absolutely no down time. If there is a lull in orders you are expected to clean while servers hang out, talk, and play games. If other cooks are not closing they do not care to help sweep or keep things clean because there is a mentality that because they aren’t closing things aren’t their problem. Managers also treated cooks poorly and reminded the cooks that we are replaceable constantly and we never received praise. Management also obsessed about keeping labor down in order to receive bonuses which also plays into them not wanting to pay employees competitively. Most managers get some sort of weekend off and do not appreciate it if you want the same and they aren't that sensitive to people in school actually trying to further their education and trying to maintain a “work life balance” (supposedly one of their values) by not working all weekend long while getting an education. There’s a lot of lip service and management does not actually care about any of the cooks. They also refuse to fix kitchen utilities that are broken because in their minds, cooks are irresponsible and will just break them again. I finished my year up, got my “bonus” or paid week of work, and high tailed it out of there for something better. Don’t bother unless it’s the only option you have.

I have been working at Dewey's Pizza full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is a procedure for everything you do, with little gray area, so your questions will always be answered. Set schedules are nice

    Cons

This company acts like it cares about their employees, but in reality, all it cares about is money. Front of house employees rarely get their employee meals comped, even when working doubles. You’re forced to find someone to cover your shifts, and management will not allow you to request a day off. They often call you in on days off and hold it against you if you say “no”. The culture is very cult-like. They shove their “purpose and values” down your throat, and bring them up every time anything happens. It makes for a robotic culture, and it feels like you’re walking on egg shells. The managers are forced to work over time, and get no compensation, so they are always in a bad mood. They overstaff, so front of house employees often walk with less than $20, and there is zero sympathy from management. Get ready to be reprimanded every time you don’t greet a table correctly or answer the phone correctly. There is zero room for personality, as they force you to be upbeat constantly, with a zero tolerance policy for standing up for yourself if patrons are rude or misunderstanding. Also, they make you work from the bottom up, no matter how much experience you have.

I worked at Dewey's Pizza part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coworkers are GREAT, and the regular customers are awesome too! Decent money, 50% off carryout for employees

    Cons

Management picks definite favorites, and they like to fire people for no reason. They also refuse to take your feedback but LOVE giving you theirs and expect you to be a perfect robot

I have been working at Dewey's Pizza part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Employee discounts are 50% off carryout food (no dine in discount at all), decent money, my coworkers are easy to work with.

    Cons

For anyone who is newly hired on from here on out they throw all this information in your face, purpose and values book, menu tests, ever-notes, development plans, expect you to be available every day of the week, and not only meet the minimum of 3 shifts a week but also pick up shifts during the week as well (even though when they interview you, they tell you they will work with your school schedule and working 3 days a week is fine). They like to check in with you and tell you how great you're doing during a review and act like everything is fine. Then a week later sit with people to fire them for reasons such as "our company is growing, and we don't see you growing with us". The managers have "hit lists" of who they need to fire and try to set examples out of them to scare other employees, all while they preach about transparency, respect, and honesty. They also love to play favorites at every store. The managers will make exceptions for certain employees, then write others up for the same action. I have been with the company for over 7 years now and all I can say is it's not at all how we started. I'm so disappointed in the direction this company has gone towards, it's no longer a company focused on it's people like it claims to be.

  10. "Good money, one of the better serving jobs I've had"

    4.0
    Current Employee - Server/Bartender

I have been working at Dewey's Pizza part-time

    Pros

I've worked at Dewey's for 5+ years now, which is a long time for someone in the service industry. They have a checks and balances system and there really isn't a lot of room for bad management, etc

    Cons

In any restaurant job there will be drama, but in comparison to other places I've worked, Deweys cares about their employees.
