Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

Amazing work/life balance. Small enough department to have your voice heard, (was) a very stable company, lots of long-term employees

    Cons

Old technology stack, limited ability to work on new/modern projects, poor management, sales drives product development, lower pay than industry standard

    Growing company

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, small company culture. The company is growing and very busy so there are opportunities for internal movement that weren't possible for a long time.

    Cons

Not enough resources to get everything done is frustrating. Always feels like you can't work long enough or hard enough to make an impact. Profit sharing is based on seniority and does not address an individual's contribution to the company. Benefits are behind the times, especially 401K match and vacation.

Growing Company with Good Rep and Leadership

Nov 8, 2016 - Marketing in Seattle, WA

    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The company is focused on sustainable growth, and the leadership consistently demonstrates true concern for the satisfaction of existing clients and current employees - something that is unfortunately becoming more rare especially in high tech firms. Well regarded in the industry (construction software) and consistently at the leading edge of deploying new technologies.

    Cons

Can be slow to take advantage of market opportunities and a bit conservative in growth.

    A great place to work.

    Pros

The employees are the best thing about working at Dexter + Chaney. I am surrounded by motivated peers who help each other out and keep things moving forward. The company has tons of potential and has experienced rapid growth in recent months--it's an exciting time to be here. Other benefits: - Management that listens and communicates. - A beautiful campus in North Seattle with plenty of parking. - Sit/stand workstations. - Regular employee appreciation events. - Profit sharing. In looking at previous reviews...many of the "cons" have already been addressed. There is plenty of opportunity and there have been several internal moves over the last year. There is now an HR person on staff. Management has improved communication and added more transparency. The company has implemented lots of cutting edge tools--allowing employees to gain new skills.

    Cons

Scaling for sustained growth comes with growing pains. Not necessarily bad, but it does involve a learning curve (for new tools and processes) and flexibility.

Great culture for a growing company

    Pros

I have been here about five years now and I can say that this is one of the best companies I have ever worked for. Laid back atmosphere that rewards hard work and results. Decent pay and great benefits. Location of the office is convenient and is a great, functional campus. Despite some of the other comments I have read, I see good -- not outstanding -- but good room for career growth here.

    Cons

Few if any cons. Perhaps more inter-departmental communication is needed at times and perhaps a little more recognition from management for individual efforts, but for a growing company with growing pains, it is run pretty damn well.
