    Pros

Always have chances to take more responsibilities if you have enough abilities and skills. Great team working environment, nice colleagues and boss. You will get to meet loads of interesting and talent people from all over the world. Get to learn and build everything from zero to hundred and have chances to use and learn different company resources such as magazines, internal customer management system etc. Very flexible in work methods and time.

    Cons

Lack of communications between different departments and offices. Some works are very grunt and boring. Not much tutoring or training. Using intern programme as cheap labor resources

    Advice to Management

More internal employee trainings and investment

  2. "Great experience"

    Pros

Awesome teamwork with other interns as well as associates and partners at the firm. Projects made an impact, but we're not necessarily always the most interesting

    Cons

Sometimes it seemed like interns were doing grunt work. Should use intern talent more effectively and assign projects that require greater responsibility and critical thinking

    Advice to Management

Perhaps have interns rotate amongst different departments. It would be nice to see what everyone at the firm does

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Dezan Shira & Associates full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was very nice to get free access to all their publications and to be able to say that you worked here, after all that apparently still is worth something on your resume.

    Cons

Complete lack of coordination within the management, no clear vision or future development. Furthermore I seriously feel that the company is taking advantage over young enthusiastic people who are looking to get more experience in Asia, reality is that this company just wants cheap robots that can speak a foreign language, there is much better companies out there to work for.

    Advice to Management

Start treating people with respect and decency, they deserve it. Furthermore for a consultancy company they should do an internal audit and restructure and set strategy or they will vanish in Asia like so many other foreign companies.

I worked at Dezan Shira & Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learn about regulations and taxes. The partner in the office and local employees are knowledgeable of accounting, tax, and doing business in China.

    Cons

The information is not interesting unless you have an interest in tax rates and Chinese accounting.
High turnover as lack of career potential

    Advice to Management

Recommend they try to find a competitive edge in their services

I worked at Dezan Shira & Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Collaborative teamwork across many departments
Good exposure to international business networks
    Work with interesting clients
Sufficient editorial independence for AB editors
Senior DSA management team highly professional
    Multicultural environment with travel
Wear many hats in startup-style environments in smaller offices (could be a con for some)
Generally space to get the job done and hit achievable business development targets, though varies according to manager
    Some offices offer staff training
Can become invaluable quickly due to high staff turnover

    Cons

15+ hours of unpaid overtime every single week
Relatively low monthly salary (i.e. less than junior English teachers')
    No pension scheme offered
Only six paid sick days per year in employment contract, and individual managers can show little to no regard for employee health
Local staff have wages docked for minor infractions
Large discrepancies between KPIs for staff of same seniority in different offices (up to triple the expected workload)
Pet projects distract from business development
Individual managers have free rein to create toxic workplace environment around them
Very high employee turnover of locals and expats alike

    Advice to Management

The company has excellent in-house HR expertise which could be applied to slow staff turnover, and perhaps carry out exit interviews. Recording communications (e.g. through mandatory use of Lync) could help you to see how managers treat the employees who actually bring in the revenue, and why some employees quit.
