I worked at Diageo full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and lots of autonomy within most roles. The brands are industry leading and well known to all retailers and consumers.

    Cons

The workload grows each year as the company tries to do more with less and less and less. This is par for the course for a publicly held company I suppose but it is not acknowledged, certainly not to be questioned.

    Advice to Management

Spend time in 'day of the life' of employees to better understand what they do.

I worked at Diageo full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked for Diageo for 10 years in three countries. Now that I work for another company I have a new level of appreciation for its structure and leadership. It is political like any big corporate, but overall if you are talented and you are able and willing to move Diageo has a huge range of opportunities. Culture is up or out, which keeps talent fresh (cons on this below).

    Cons

Re-orgs occur every 18-36 months, creating significant uncertainty and poor morale during the periods of change. Individual experience can vary greatly depending on the leader of your market or business unit. Culture is up or out, and every re-org cuts both strong talent and lower performers. If you cannot move you will quickly top out on opportunities. It is always a matter of when, not if, you will leave Diageo. Employee diversity is lacking vs. many of its competitors.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the consumer. Be more open to taking risks in the innovation portfolio. Hold leaders accountable to leadership behavior and not just financial results.
