I worked at Diamond Offshore full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Small lean departments, good salary and bonuses. Project management is lean and free of most bureaucracy. Excellent training facility on main admin building.

    Cons

Be politically connected or else. Fiefdoms and cliques rule the company. Don't get older than 50 there unless well protected by upper management. Rumors fly and are impossible to control. New CIO is slash and burn.

    Advice to Management

Stop blatant age discrimination, last round of layoffs was massive and targeted those over 50 and not politically connected. Offsite training and career development is lacking.

    Pros

Good place. It's really hard to say much more since the whole industry is in a crunch. I think with fresh blood it'll be better.

    Cons

The old guard needs to be retired. They still think. It's the good old days. Once that happens it should get better.

    Advice to Management

Stick in there nuture employees...looks for new ways of doing things.

I have been working at Diamond Offshore (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay is great and benefits are second to none. Remaining personnel are tight as they lean on each other more.

    Cons

Corporate management has no idea what they are doing in the downturn. Quality personnel are being laid off and incompetent personnel are being allowed to stay. When things return, management will have no one to blame but themselves for the inadequate personnel they are left with.

    Advice to Management

Wake up!! Use proper evaluations of personnel and stop keeping personnel who are not capable of bringing the company through the next level. Signs now show a pathetic level of ignorance, incompetence and laziness. Sad at best.

I worked at Diamond Offshore (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good compensation and benefits. Very high salary and insurance plan selections are good

    Cons

Incompetence of management and training dept. Highly discriminatory from fellow employees if your not from the south especially Louisiana, good old boy attitude. Extremely racist and very sexist company.

    Advice to Management

Stop nepotism and favoritism. Enforce HSE policies especially alcohol and drug use on all rigs and vessels
