I worked at Dickey's Barbecue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Accrued lots of travel points/rewards
-Quick interview/onboarding process for all positions

    Cons

-Most franchisees feel that Corporate is taking advantage of them and that they are not being helped at a regional-level. They are correct.
-Constant turnover means re-learning a new chain of command every month.
-High turnover means that everyone is inexperienced in their roles so trying to get assistance with abnormal situations is difficult.
    -Zero work/life balance.
-Constantly changing brand standards leads to constant confusion at the store level and constant deviation from standards.

    Advice to Management

Cash out and let the professionals take over. You are running the company into the ground.

I worked at Dickey's Barbecue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have met some amazing employees and owners that are life long friends.

    Cons

Some of the downsides to working for Dickey's includes:
    1. No work/life balance. Management can call, text or email you anytime of the day and / or night (including weekends).
    2. Lack of confidentiality with employees. If an employee is not doing well in their respective roles or at risk of being terminated, other employees know before that employee does. Management does not hold confidentiality as a high standard.
    3. The goals are counterproductive as each employee is only focusing on hitting their numbers. Management's sole focus is numbers and definitely not service to the owners.
    4. The high turnover is an issue for employees and the owners. This is office is literally a revolving door. It speaks volumes, when you have management taking bets on how long employees will last. The excuse provided by management for the high turnover is that everyone is not built to handle our culture and not everyone has what it takes.
    5. Micromanaging is definitely an issue. There is an 8 am morning meeting to discuss commitments that were discussed at 5 pm the previous evening. Updates are then required at 10, 2 and 5 for the commitment provided in the 8 am meeting. If it is the end of the month, updates are required hourly to ensure that everyone hits their respective commitments.

    Advice to Management

    My advice to management is:
    1. Take pride in your company by taking care of your employees and owners. When you take care of your people, they take care of you.
    2. Refrain from reprimanding employees in front of others as this does not "build up" anyone but rather encourages them to seek alternate employment (a concept learned in DMI).
    3. Refrain from threatening to discipline an employee in front of others especially since you never know who is "recording" meetings. If an employee requires disciplinary action, the manager should speak to that employee directly (another concept learned in DMI).
    4. The Dickey's Management Institute (DMI) is an amazing leadership program that provides necessary skills for leaders to become better. My advice is, "Management should use it instead of just talking about it."
    4. Micromanaging does not work and neither does demeaning your employees (one of the concepts learned from DMI).
    5. Consider your employees when they travel for DBRI purposes. The daily allowance for food is $25 per day. Well, this may be an attempt to assist employees in weight loss. I will move this to the pros.

This is just some of the advice that I can think of. Unfortunately, many others before me have offered the same advice but it tends to fall on deaf ears.
