I worked at Digi International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I think in general they have a pay scale and benefits package that is standard in the "average" corporate world. Nothing to fancy, but definitely enough to consider a position there. Most of the staff in the sales side of the business is friendly and hard working. The company overall has the best of intentions to treat the staff well and do the best they can for the customers and the company. Some managers are very good about career development and supporting internal advancement.

    Cons

While the company intends to do good for their employees, overworked and under appreciated staff is becoming the new norm around Digi. Executives are too focused on the Smart Solution/ Cold Chain side of the business to care that the hardware business is suffering. There are just not enough resources to deliver the high quality product that customers expect in a timely manner. To top it off, they are switching IT systems from the best in class to antiquated limited systems which will likely only cause more issues for the already overworked staff. If you are thinking about a job anywhere near the sales side of the business, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are really up for a challenge (high quotas, low resources). Maybe if you intend to join the smart solutions side of the business or engineering it wouldn't be so bad.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the core business. You can't have a company to support Smart Solutions if you don't have the hardware money to back it. The sales and customer support teams are overworked and under appreciated. Make your employees happy and they will make your customers happy.

I worked at Digi International as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Digi has a laid-back working environment. It was a good place to have a first internship at. The lower stress environment means managers have more time to coordinate projects and mentor interns (my manager was great). Recently renovated into a much more open, collaborative space from the dark, dingy offices and cubicles it used to be. Building is situated on an extensive set of walking/biking/running paths.

    Cons

Building is showing its age and is clearly not the ideal space for the current use; however, it was being actively renovated during my time there. Location feels like a dying business park, complete with weeds growing in neighboring lots. Technology was lacking for a technology company. Interns are given desktops with not enough memory and old VGA monitors, while others enjoy laptops and newer widescreen monitors. High employee turnover.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your internship program. This is your future, not the people that have been there for 20+ years. HR department needs to be larger to keep up with your current employee count and turnover rate.

I worked at Digi International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a lot of different product offerings allowing to create a complete solution for the customers. Engineering support is solid and for the most part based around the customers needs.

    Cons

At the time the there was limited direction from the company to incorporate some of the technologies and companies. This may be different now that leadership has changed.

I have been working at Digi International full-time

    Pros

Great team environment. Great collaboration. Has some very good clients. Flexible working hours. Flexible PTO and sick days.

    Cons

No incentive to work extra (weekends, nights). Convoluted and confusing processes. No coordination between teams. Sales thinks they run all delivery and operations, tail wags the dog. HR is non-existent, no employee development. Sales have been flat to decreasing. Too many people believe they are in charge and overall leadership is lacking. Digi has a large company mentality in a small company.

    Advice to Management

Business needs a divisional re-organization. a matrix structure should be implemented. HR should take a hard look at personnel numbers and productivity.

I worked at Digi International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment, lots of perks and fringe benefits, largely hands off and trusting of their employees, excellent facilities. Friendly and approachable people from top to bottom.

    Cons

Different work groups tend to be isolated, could be a larger sense of group unity. Compensation in general lags behind industry standards.

    Advice to Management

I saw a lot of talented people leave due to under compensation while lesser employees settle in for long hauls, work to retain those who are your best or be stuck with the rest.

    Cons

Generally behind technology wise. Could use younger leadership

    Advice to Management

Increase ease of accessibility to products

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities to learn and grow at Digi. As an intern I've worked on various projects

    Cons

It seems like things are a bit disorganized, and sometimes some people are not so willing to help out.
