I worked at Digital Chocolate (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The job itself was interesting; difficult problems to solve but we had freedom to explore creative solutions. We had flexible hours and the company atmosphere was generally friendly.

    Cons

Pretty much only management ever got promoted. Company-wide yearly bonuses were mentioned in the interview, but while I was there (3 years), no bonuses were ever granted.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and reward achievements of all employees, not just management. Don't maintain a totally flat structure within engineering; those with clearly more talent/experience should at least be project leaders.

I worked at Digital Chocolate full-time

    Pros

Working on games is always fun, and by and large, most of the workers at the company were fun and great to work with.

    Cons

The top management was too focused on short-term metrics, causing them to make decisions that hampered long-term success.

    Advice to Management

The games industry is a hit-based business, that requires creativity and the ability to move past a simple short-term formula.

I have been working at Digital Chocolate full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great way to enter the industry.

    Cons

    Limited opportunity for financial advancement.

    Advice to Management

More cooperation between studios, management, and porting groups, so that they is more cooperation, research, and collaboration and less emphasis on the bottom-line with quick revenue opportunities that may not pay off long-term.

    Pros

You're given a chance to stand-out. Flexible when it comes to taking on different roles or exploring other tasks aside from your own.

    Cons

No innovation when it comes to the products. Cloning games.

I worked at Digital Chocolate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very fun atmosphere. Cool facilities with cafeterias and game rooms. Pay is good. It gives you nice curriculum. It's a company large enought to learn a lot, and small enought to feel your work actually adds a lot into the final product.

    Cons

If you are into producing high quality games, this might not be the place for you. They rather publish a mediocre game full of bugs, than waiting a week or two to publish a quality product.

They have periods where employee dismisal is almost automatic in order to reduce workforce and meet budgets.

    Advice to Management

Mediocre games are mediocre games, regardless of the date you release them. Allocate one week or two to polish the games and resolve bugs and you'll be much better.

    Pros

Good people, with a lot of experience.

    Cons

Much time and money wasted on projects with no proven value
Waay too many VPs who all had to sign off on a project to move it forward

    Advice to Management

Fewer chefs in the kitchen - I've never seen a company that size with that many executives
