I worked at Digital First Media full-time

    Pros

Many employees have been with the company for a long time and are decent, hard-working people

    Cons

The company is so large that bureaucracy and poor communication between teams hinders general productivity. Half of any given day is wasted in meetings, especially so if you work across multiple teams.

    Advice to Management

Give teams more autonomy, especially on the digital product front.

    Pros

Good and talented people, fun technology to work with.

    Cons

The industry is heading south, so perks and salaries are not good at all.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people and get a new insurance plan.

I worked at Digital First Media full-time

    Pros

Wonderful colleagues who care about journalism.

    Cons

Owned by a hedge fund, clueless, indifferent C-suite leadership. Lacks innovation and internal feedback infrastructure to provide supervising managers feedback. Pay is low.

    Advice to Management

Aside from paying your people more equitably, establish some 360 reviews for managers. Current system does nothing to empower subordinates to provide constructive feedback to all levels of the organization.

    Advice to Management

    - train managers to respect staff members
    - work to improve employee pay and benefits
    - when you hire a data scientist, google what we actually do

I worked at Digital First Media full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Higher Rate of pay for the area

    Cons

Very old and antiquated accounting systems. Little to no streamline of duties from publication to publication. My duties grew and no overtime was approved. Very stressful and not worth the income or benefits.

I have been working at Digital First Media full-time

    Pros

Good first job, surrounding area isn't overly expensive so you can at least eat, kind of, on the peanuts they give you.

    Cons

Low pay, managers who are actually salaried and take vacation constantly and look down on you, you probably won't ever be promoted because why would they want to pay you more.

    Advice to Management

Care more, punish those who do a terrible job instead of making others pick up slack.

I have been working at Digital First Media full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you work hard you can potentially make good money. The hours are great and they're usually pretty flexible (at least in my office) when you need time off.

    Cons

Medical Benefits are bad and will only get worse in 2017. There's really nowhere to move up towards, so if you're looking for a career with a chance for advancement, this isn't the place for you. Workforce has been cut back so those of us left are doing multiple jobs

    Advice to Management

We need better benefits! Stop cutting back - we're already working with a bare bones staff and those of us left that truly care are beyond stressed and cannot take on any more.

    Cons

Lack of leadership. Corporate blindly filed the field. Lack of creativity and ownership. No vision, no long term strategy.

    Advice to Management

    Leadership.
