I worked at Digital Realty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and some great people, free snacks and huge corporate potential.

    Cons

During my tenure I had the opportunity to work with a number of senior management in high stress situations, and was surprised at the amount of finger pointing, blame shifting, and toxic backstabbing. It seems, from more recent reviews, that the culture may be changing. I hope, for current staff's sake, that holds true!

    Advice to Management

Correcting a hostile environment is a difficult task, but a building full of deflated and defeated employees will never go the extra mile for you. Create a more positive culture, and it's amazing what heights you can reach!

I have been working at Digital Realty full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Reorganization eliminating Portfolio Operations from the day to day operations was the best thing this company could have done. Staffing levels are finally crawling out of "dangerous to safely conduct operations" levels.

    Cons

So many reviews from people who have just been hired or in the interview process falsely builds on a company with too many deficiencies to list. No IT support, No trained command center staff, Completely ineffective training department, company loyal to no one but the all mighty dollar. Previous command center was shutdown and all employees fired and the command center was moved to New Jersey. Seasoned analysts replaced with clueless robots.

    Advice to Management

Reconsider almost every major decision you've made.

    Pros

Benefits are good including medical and 401k match.

    Cons

There is no room for growth or opportunities in this company. There are constant changes in priorities and goals and it does not seem like employees are valued.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the talents of your employees

I worked at Digital Realty (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free snacks, nice office, great views of the city. Great PTO and bonus.. The company has quarterly happy hours and an awesome yearly holiday party.

    Cons

The cooperation between the different groups could be better. Some employees are not afraid of back stabbing others to get ahead. Towards the end, Senior Leadership made decisions that made our tasks more difficult and time consuming. Unless you're an all star performer, the chances of a promotion are close to nil.

    Advice to Management

Make better hires. The recent hires were horrific. May I suggest hiring people with more than a high school diploma?

Cutting edge industry and largest in field of operators

    Cons

    Manage up versus managing down.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees. Turn to "servant leadership" style

I worked at Digital Realty full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent annual bonus, job security, company sponsored happy hours every quarter, fancy christmas party

    Cons

Little attention or priority is given to any employees below director level. Promotions are most often given to VPs or above, never to the worker bees. Company is very top heavy with lots of upper management to dole out tasks, but not enough lower level employees to take on all the work. Hours are long and merit raises are minimal. Health insurance plan is atrocious and very expensive. Work life balance is abismal.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your employees below the director level. Provide a better health plan and encourage a healthy work life balance. Happy employees are essential to the success of a business.

I worked at Digital Realty full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Initially a fantastic company that was looking to grow, pay its employees well and have fun while doing your job. Worked with a great group of peers.

    Cons

Management is purely looking at the bottom line and their own tails and discounting the individuals that actually did the work. The Telx acquisition ended up being a full on bait and switch. Digital purchased Telx and Telx is basically running the operations. There is the "token" woman in SLT and that will probably never change. If you are looking to move up in your career this is not the place to start.

    Advice to Management

SLT take a look and take care of the people that do the work and hire more women in upper management.

I worked at Digital Realty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of change and they seem to be trying to address the internal issues. Global company. Plenty of opportunity for growth if you chase it or stay in-line. Some great people and brilliant minds. The newer offices are in good locations and standards

    Cons

EMEA office is ruled by crippling and toxic politics, morale is low and there is no loyalty to the company.
Management promoted through time at the company, internal networking or purely job skill rather than ability to lead, inspire or having the maturity to handle challenges without politics or aggression
Apparently the situation isn't much better in the US.

    Advice to Management

Train those you promote, provide clear direction, lead by example, invest in employees
