    Pros

The company is financially very successful, so job security is great. Since they do some work essentially as a defense contractor, they do not outsource jobs, which is obviously another boon for job security. Some (but not all) of the groups use leading edge technologies, which makes the technical work more interesting and valuable on the resume.

    Cons

I haven't seen much promotion from within, despite the huge list of open positions. There is also some disfunction between groups that should be working closely together, but prefer (for whatever reason) to work in their own silo.

    Advice to Management

The company has done a good job of hiring capable people, we should extend the value of that hiring practice by doing a better job of promoting from within.

    Pros

    Intelligent people
    Room for professional growth
    Yearly incentives
    Untapped potential for company products
    New technology development
    Potential for company growth

    Cons

    Current lack of commercial ventures
Current unbalanced income between government and commercial sources
Lack of employee profit sharing plan
Company match with 401k not one to one

    Advice to Management

Do your best to retain top talent

I have been working at DigitalGlobe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Competitive Salary (especially compared to cost of living and the range of options on safe places to live, great schools)
    -Great benefits
-Plenty of PTO (if you can find the time to use it)
-Relaxed dress (jeans and flip flops are standard fare)
-Phenomenal location (beautiful mountain view, lots of road biking/hiking/skiing coworkers)
-Supervisor/Coaching training: upper management finally instituted coaching training for all supervisors and the positive change for teams is already apparent.

    Cons

-Dangerously dynamic environment: with the merger, new technology becoming available, and new systems ALL THE TIME, sometimes I just don't know what to expect when I come to work in the morning... you have to be a roll-with-the-punches type of person to work at DG.
-Still getting comfortable with shift workers: if you are signing up for shift work, be aware that the company is still trying to find a good balance between its regular workers and shift workers (who now amount to nearly 1/3 of the company), there are a few wrinkles to iron out.
-Certain departments are a hot mess due to flaky leadership (IT, IS, etc) while other departments seem to really provide an amazing place to work (SatOps, MCC, Production, etc)... choose wisely.

    Advice to Management

Stop feeding employees all information all the time. It is up to management to filter out what is important to remember and what the employee needs to know for their job. With a constantly changing environment, it grows frustrating, and impossible to remember what is happening vs what is not (especially when you are not one of the people making these decisions).

And stop promoting people based on technical excellence only - managers should have major people skills and be able to coach/lead, not just boss around and throw fits. There are quite a few unprofessional managers in certain departments.

I worked at DigitalGlobe full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Global enterprise that touches a variety of markets and sectors. Opportunities to partner with market leaders. Significant contributor to growing repository of commercial remote sensing data.

    Cons

Insular at times. Engineering-centric culture with little tolerance for risk and stumbling to execute on innovation goals beyond the space segment. A company with an aerospace mindset grappling to transition into a scalable and sustainable analytics firm.

    Advice to Management

To grow the insight business...think like a business analytics company and execute like a start-up.

    Pros

Some very intelligent people that were committed to doing quality work. I learned a lot from working at DG - lots of great people doing very cool things.

    Cons

The culture was very uncertain. People always seem worried as to how long they will have their job. I know many people that are still there that are looking for other jobs.

I have been working at DigitalGlobe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Cool technology, smart people (both business and technical), a strong focus on Purpose, Vision and Values at all levels of leadership, great benefits and competitive pay, little perks that sometimes get lost in the shuffle like bagel tuesdays, local discounts, peer recognition, etc..

    Cons

Fast-paced with a lot of change to ingest all at once. Company is still working to put scalable structures into place to support the growth. Many sub-cultures exist so experience can greatly differ based on where in the company you work and/or who you work with/for.

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in people and rapidly responding to changes in the market. Don't underestimate the value that shifts in culture can have on productivity/effectiveness.

    Pros

Jeff Taar has set the purpose and values for the company that drive each one of us. It is a wonderful place with great benefits and culture. Global leader in earth observation industry and pioneered the start of commercial remote sensing industry.

    Cons

Hectic work environment that demands 100% effort.**

I have been working at DigitalGlobe full-time

    Pros

If you want to work on things that are significant and change the world, this is the place. There is a huge opportunity to understand what is going on around the world at any given time since the business is inherently global. DigitalGlobe is a big(ish) company that operates similar to a startup where everyone feel like they are in this together and are aligned every quarter and every launch. Very interesting tech problems are solved here from launching satellites to distributing PBs of content, to analyzing and understanding what is going on inside those PBs.

    Cons

United mentality has too many people focused on the quarter rather than on internal metrics. Launching satellites creates a specific culture of thoroughness and rigor rather than around 'failing fast' and iterations.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to take ownership of things they are passionate about.
