I worked at Dillard's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Because medic lines will give you free gratis same as all retailers. Nice discounts on top of sales being the first to see the good deals

    Cons

Management can be a little trashy. Hourly pay is deducted if you are not meeting your sales quota- management is young inexperienced and micromanage

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging people if you want to babysitting job go work for a daycare! Best not to lower peoples pay when not performing better to have a bonus structure it will help with morale in cosmetic department

    Advice to Management

    Lost cause.

I have been working at Dillard's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay is well but that was really the only good thing about working here besides the hours being a little better than most retail positions.

    Cons

Extremely Poor management, goals changing constantly, fire without warning, treat employees like crap, play favorites with employees (where some employees would be written up for an action, the favorites do not) poor communication.

I worked at Dillard's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Discount , closed on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas ...sick days that you never get to use. Insurance that is too costly...paid vacation that you have to wait the following year to use

    Cons

The stores are slow, so you have to call customers to get sales or walk the store and bring back customers to try to sell them... times have changed in sales and Dillards has not changed with it... you also have managers that do not know what the meaning of being a manager is... they verbally and mentally abuse you and the store manager does the same... the fact that they get away with it because there is no HR department...

    Advice to Management

Get an hr department and re-evaluate your store mangers to make sure they can manage and not have power trips...bring class back to the store...stop the revolving door,it only hurts you in the long run when customers know how badly you treat your employees...remember this.......customers know how you treat the associates.......that's why they don't support your stores.....

I have been working at Dillard's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The money is okay, but you feel like you are climbing a up hill battle. There is no support from the upper office

    Cons

The business model is old fashioned. The need a new way in to look to grow their business. The need a new way to bring people into the business

I worked at Dillard's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Dillards offers a great starting pay compared to other retailers in all departments, and avoids overtime at all costs; ergo, you're never at the mall past 9:15 during regular hours.

    Cons

The only training Dillards offers is in the form of online videos to watch on your own time- the time intended for recruiting and selling. Aside from that, there's little to no guidance when it comes to any position below an ASM. Personally, I was never informed of the pay incentive/cut because the cosmetic line I worked for didn't allow it; however, despite a dramatic increase in volume- I was threatened with a pay cut...

    Advice to Management

I would say two of the biggest issues in need of immediate attention would be customer service and company culture.

I have been working at Dillard's for less than a year

    Pros

Employee discount, internal advancement, coaching and training, "spiffs", gratis and free products.

    Cons

Little work/life balance. Low bonuses compared to competitors. Low hourly wages, difficult raise structure. Extremely behind technologically and a very dated business model.

    Advice to Management

Minimize "busy work" for Beauty Advisors and Sales Advisors. Set realistic sales goals and raise structure. Develop talent and provide more bonuses for management. Increase support staff for Sales Managers. Mitigate the following issues with dated technology and decreased productivity: markdowns, chargebacks, "RSVS". Merge online and in-store ordering systems. Offer raises for over achievers before review dates.

I have been working at Dillard's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Dillard's is set up to make people work for their money and a lot of people don't like that. It's a competitive environment and it can be hard at times. However, they pay very well and there are a lot of opportunities to move up. They also have fairly good benefits.

    Cons

Very competitive environment. Sales per hour set up scares people because of possibility of pay cuts. Long hours on your feet.

    Advice to Management

Know when to step in and help, especially with things like 20,000 markdowns dropping at once. Understand that some people work harder than others and that should allow for a bump in SPH for those who do.

    Pros

Having been in senior management throughout my career this company scores high in advancement. Its leadership and continued training sets it apart in the retail market.

    Cons

Employee moral definitely needs improvement. Unfortunately most employees are setup to fail and that creates a hostile and unpleasant workplace.

    Advice to Management

    Better Training
