    I worked at Dillard's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the people I worked with and was given the opportunity to improve my department. Discounts on clothes and knowledge of upcoming sales allows you to upgrade your wardrobe on the cheap!

    Cons

You will usually be working holidays and weekends. Your friends are at the pool? too bad, your working. impromptu weekend trip? too bad, your working. The "sales manager" I worked for had literally no knowledge of sales tactics. They basically want you to shove credit card apps down peoples throats, with the threat of attending a sunday morning "training" session regardless of your work schedule that day.

    Advice to Management

More training for management or possible create a career training platform to encourage good employees to move up in the company.

I have been working at Dillard's (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to be a great company to work for until Bill Dillard, Sr. passed away.

    Cons

Salary cap at low pay. Works employees like a horse. Not enough help for what they want accomplished. Unsafe conditions because everyone overworked. Not EEOC friendly.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees a fair wage for the work they do. Quit making MILLIONS, literally, while you will not hire full time people who actually MAKE the you millions for you. People cannot live on part time, 29 hours or less and be at your becon call to work...just so you can find the loophole of not paying benefits, no insurance!

    I worked at Dillard's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked for the company for many years. After the late William Dillard passed the reins on to the sons and daughters, things changed. Gone was the folksy family feeling, in favor of new technology, objective goals, and maximizing productivity. The nature of retail is to be available when everyone else is off work and ready to spend their money. Dillard's pays well, but they expect their employees to earn their keep. In return, you work for a company who won't steal your 401k, can offer a decent benefits package, and whose paychecks will clear the bank each week.

    Cons

It all depends on the division and store management. Working with the public can be challenging, and I think everyone should be required to do so for at least one full year. Sales goals can be challenging at best, impossible to meet, at worst. Shoplifters, people who pile clothes on the floors in dressing rooms, complainets - they're all part of the job. You either like it, or you don't.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your people, and treat them as the valuable assets that they are. Give back to the community. Help your people understand how they are making a difference.

    I worked at Dillard's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some co-workers were great, like family. Discount is 25%off,3 times a year it's 40%off. When you start you get 50%off anything "job appropriate". My manager was amazing, very hard worker, wouldnt ask you to do anything she wouldn't do herself.

    Cons

Sales is everything, literally! You're expected to sell even if there are no people in the store! They emphasize on customer service, but it's not true, all they want you to do is sell, sell, sell! Senior associates are very aggressive, they don't like to help newbies. If you don't meet your sales quota the first month,it starts to accumulate. After three months you get a pay cut if you don't make your sales. Working 6 days a week, sometimes 12 hour shifts,no overtime.

    Advice to Management

Don't scrutinize lower management for things that are out of their hands. Be realistic in sales goals. You are letting really good sales associates go.

    Pros

Meet new people, employees are kind caring people. The job is fun if you like helping people.

    Cons

The management team is awful. They do not care about you, nor do they treat you like a real person.

    Advice to Management

It would be good to have a little empathy, understanding and kindness when dealing with employees.
