I have been working at Dimensions Healthcare System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, great benefits, nice colleagues. There are some employees that really want to help save the organization from going under. If you get shot or stabbed, they'll save your life here.

    Cons

About 10-15 years behind in certain ways in comparison to other health systems in the area. Old building...needs many updates. Horrible executive leadership. Some have caused Dimensions's financial demise but are still working there. Unethical business practices. Not enough staff to implement positive ideas. Poor physician satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Growing up in the area, I've rarely heard anything positive about Dimensions but it's actually not a bad place to work. However, money is going out of this organization like a running faucet turned all the way up. It is absolutely unbelievable. No wonder the organization is in a financial crisis. No one seems to care and are not doing anything to control spending or cut cost. Employees are privy to a lot of underhanded activities but won't speak up. Terminate the individuals who have done more harm than good to the organization, starting at the executive leadership level. Once University of Maryland takes over, I hope none of the dead weight is NOT allowed to transition over to the new hospital.

    Pros

Literally none. Please see cons below.

    Cons

First, just hope your paycheck never gets messed up. You will lose your sanity trying to get it fixed, doesn’t matter if you did nothing wrong. Communication in this place is a joke, it's an "everyone for themselves" attitude, departments don't want to help each other. You may be inspired to join the cause of bettering the health care for Prince George's County residents, I was, but it's unfortunately a lost cause with this hospital. You have to be a literal saint to accomplish that.

    Advice to Management

Just burn the place down and wait for university of Maryland to build the new one.

I have been working at Dimensions Healthcare System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great! Health, dental, retirement, life, disability, etc, but the best part is the pto - at least for my full time salaried administrative position, I started off with 25 days. That's 5 weeks y'all!!

There are also attempts to raise the hospital from the ashes (speaking specifically about Prince George's Hospital Center). Slooooowly but surely. Ok, not surely... Possibly maybe...? At least in a few years the University of Maryland system is taking over... But it keeps being pushed back.

    Cons

The environment of apathy is so ingrained here that it's really hard to see anything changing. The employees who have been there a long time have been conditioned to accept that lack of hard work, empathy or compassion do not result in any consequences. If you're a person who is brought in subscribing to the notion that things are changing, you're going to have a struggle here. Which is not to say that the good fight is not there to be fought... You just have to understand what a truly uphill battle it is going to be. Also, my title refers specifically to the subsection of employment under DHA (Dimensions Healthcare Associates), the "physician practice" side of operations. The executive in charge of DHA has zero clue what he is doing. Meetings with him make you feel like you're on a very bad trip. He talks in circles, forgets things on the reg (even though he appears to be writing everything down), and contradicts himself on a daily basis. I know for a fact he is the main reason for a number of resignations recently.

    Advice to Management

Get a new executive for DHA. Do a massive house cleaning. Anyone who answers their phone "what chu want" should be fired on the spot. That should take care of a lot of the problem employees right there. Anyone who can't respond to email in at least 72 hours - fire. Anyone who can't understand how to change a toner cartridge after being shown 4 times - fire. Seriously though, read your own Google reviews from patients and patient's families. They're not good. And that's what matters. A lot of the bad ones name specific employees - start there, drill down, light some fires! Don't accept mediocre when there are actually a lot of redeeming qualities that could potentially save the place.

    Pros

Strong hospital system; family feel; partnering with the University of Maryland Medical System!

    Cons

Going through an enormous amount of change; leadership changes somewhat frequent.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people; engage the staff; embrace the knowledge-base of seasoned staff

I worked at Dimensions Healthcare System full-time

    Pros

CEO John Spearman, is very professional.

    Cons

Needs to restructure management - especially Directors, and Managers. Many of them do not buy into the CEO's leadership values. The resistance is strong for those in key positions. There is very little consideration for who is hired for what positions. There are leaders (especially managers and directors) "trying to learn as they go along" but fall short....therefore the bar remains low - maintaining yesterday's norm. And I'm talking about the lack of basic functional skills. It's sad.

    Advice to Management

Might be too late...but stop extending the employment of your management barriers. There is an environment of "slick" talk - it sounds good.....but for God's sake look at the results. Like my mother says "all talk and no action"..... There is a culture where people "talk themselves out of trouble" ..... look at results..... please.

    Pros

The salary is average, the benefits are nonexistent, no raises in over 6 years.

    Cons

Lazy selfish Anesthesiologists, who treat CRNAS as slaves, their biggest goal is to find the nearest CRNA to relieve .them so they can go sit in the lounge. Heavy trauma cases.

    Advice to Management

Anesthesiologists need to be more efficient and less lazy

    Pros

Recent change at the CEO position is very promising, encouraging and a "light at the end of the tunnel". Employees are friendly and welcoming.

    Cons

Lack of executive leadership, strategic plan and accountability as an organization. Lack of urgency, will and discipline (especially by the leadership) to enact change and reverse negative fiscal situation

    Advice to Management

Develop a corporate identity, and roll-out a strategic plan that employees can rally around. Implement a cultural and organizational change program.
