I have been working at Direct General full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

They have great benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401k, plus more. They also offer their agents an hourly salary plus a monthly commission.

    Cons

There are charge backs on your commission if the customer cancels his/her policy and monthly sales goals that must be met.

    Pros

Management is flexible and allows working from home 1 day per week.
Hours aren't set in stone as long as you put in 8 a day they're flexible with start/stop times.
There is open communication at all levels of management. Even the VP has an open door policy and makes it a point to walk through the office on a daily basis and chat with everyone.

    Cons

None that I can think of

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work - I have never worked somewhere that I love so much!

I have been working at Direct General full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment. Dedicated to their technology stack. Very laid back culture with open door policies. Managers are friendly.

    Cons

Low pay, poor benefits. Recently sold to a larger company. Lots of uncertainty about the future of jobs and management has not been forthcoming with information.

    Advice to Management

Improve pay, morale and benefits. Salaries are offered at a very low rate despite how picky managers are about who they hire. When an employee starts off feeling like they are undervalued, it's hard to shake that perception.

    Pros

Great entry level place to start if you have no experience and want to get your foot in the door.

    Cons

Not so great when you learn enough about insurance to know they cut corners to save money.

    Advice to Management

Focus on ethics more than sales

I worked at Direct General full-time

    Pros

Salary was somewhat competitive for the Nashville area. The benefits were decent as well. Non-management people were great to work with. Middle management was hit or miss.

    Cons

Middle to upper management did a very poor job at communicating the overall picture. As a result, morale is in the toilet and has been for years according to some employees. No team building exercises take place. It's a cube farm.

    Advice to Management

Communicate a clear picture to all sub-departments to have teams work as a well oiled machine. Invest in team building exercises. Get rid of the short cubes so people can focus on their work.

I have been working at Direct General full-time

    Pros

Nothing other than it's a paycheck.

    Cons

So many. Employees that have worked here for many years turn a blind eye and do what it takes to get by. Everyone knows no one will ever do anything to change it. Moral is at an all time low yet no one cares.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and see what's going on.
