I have been working at Direct Line Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible working and reasonable holiday package + pension.

    Cons

Typical bonuses of around 1.5% if you perform well.. which is poor compared to the competition.. If working in the head office in Bromley, the salaries are based on UK average despite being in Zone 5 (only 10 miles) from central London.. So salaries don't match the competition. Bonus is delayed 4 months (performance is measured for the year Jan - Dec, bonus not paid until April of following year)

    Advice to Management

Start matching the competition in terms of salary otherwise employees will continue to use DLG as a stepping stone to gain skills and move to london based roles..

I have been working at Direct Line Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits, innovative company, staff ideas valued and encouraged. good work life balance ( depending on role)

    Cons

Some of the areas of the business have no clear progression and senior roles tend to be Bromley or Leeds centric which limits development opportunities

I have been working at Direct Line Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Salary is good along with additional benefits e.g insurance discounts. My manager goes above and beyond to offer the best possible experience from accredited courses, meeting key stakeholders around the business to delegating tasks which are exciting and challenging. Opportunity to rotate across the business into different functions. The business is hugely supportive of extra curricular activities you undertake... particularly those involving charity work. Values of the company are fantastic and they are embedded into the organisation- for example you are encouraged to “say it like it is” The recruitment process from applying to the assessment was hugely challenging but also exciting- by far one of the best assessments I’ve attended.

    Cons

Your experience is hugely impacted by who your manager is- the graduate scheme isn’t consistent. No opportunity to study accounting qualifications in year 1 of the graduate scheme. Your salary isn’t adjusted if you’re working in Bromley- this is usually the norm to have an additional amount added as it’s significantly more expensive living there. The time taken to send out my contract of employment wasn’t great-... it was significantly longer than other graduate scheme providers.

    Advice to Management

The graduate scheme needs to become more consistent- I would recommend having a structure for the graduate scheme. The process of getting graduates on board following on from the verbal offer needs to be improved as it can put graduates off.

I have been working at Direct Line Group

    Pros

    > Excellent attitude toward flexible working and creating a good Work/Life balance > Heavy investment into technology allowing capability to work from home effectively. > Excellent benefits - including non contributory pension, insurance discounts, and share save scheme.

    Cons

Bromley is not idea for some areas of London (NW London & East London) - however from SW London, SE London and Kent, Bromley is a great commute and on an empty train from Victoria, Thameslink and Blackfriars.

    Pros

Nice helpful bunch of people. Dress down even for managerial roles at company headquarters. Relaxed environment.

    Cons

Bromley is quite ugly. No opportunities for international assignments. High staff turnover as opportunities in London abound.
