    Pros

Very forward thinking company that is willing to make the investment in their employees and in the technology needed to advance their market share. Excellent vacation package and work-life balance.

    Cons

As with any large company, it is sometimes difficult to see the big picture and feel like you're more than just a "cog in the machine".

    Advice to Management

Keep up the direction headed and preserve the company culture

I have been working at Discover full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits package (just recamped maternity AND paternity leave), dress code, free shuttles to/from Lake-Cook metra and Braeside, collaborative workspace, beautiful campus, on-site workout facility with classes

    Cons

Field locations and corporate are two different worlds, and the field has a better environment
Say they want innovation, but when something goes wrong the first instinct is "who can we blame for this?" Not "how did this come to be?"
Leaders are directive - not coaching or building capability of teams

    Advice to Management

Focus on embracing and fostering the ideas of your team, not making yourself look good or placing blame for trying something new.

    Pros

They have Great PTO, benefits and work life balance. The Campus is fantastic with a great onsite cafe and a fitness center.

    Cons

Career advancement opportunities are limited in your current role. Reviews are mediocre at best. Training is underwhelming. Promotions happens more often if you switch roles often or become part of the political culture.

I have been working at Discover full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, PTOs, insurance, summer hours, etc. Also have many Employee Resources Groups to get to know people outside of your team. Company encourages internal transfers to keep top talent. Beautiful campus with many good amenities. At high level, our management provides very transparent and good directions for our goals and initiatives.

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. We are growing fast, so I sometime feel like there are so much going on where everything is high priority, but have not enough resources to complete quality work.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Middle management need more training - on people skills for sure. It is great that good players get promoted, but good players do not always make great coach/managers. People under those struggling managers are suffering and leaving the company.

    Pros

    Good Benefits
    Great working culture
    Good Flexible working timings

    Cons

Constant change of Managers within a short span of time.

    Advice to Management

Changes are welcome. But when you replace your legacy system with hi tech systems, please try to place / train your old employee who worked hard earlier and please do not kick them out.

I worked at Discover full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company culture--key leaders strive to ensure work-life balance for their employees. Casual dress code, flexible hours, options for working remotely and very nice corporate campus.

    Cons

Hierarchical structure often results in long waits for decisions. Focus on mitigating risk often hinders innovation.

I worked at Discover full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

friendly people all wanting to do excellent work, decent if a bit average pay

    Cons

too big to manage, highly matrixed so the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Lack of processes and standards meant teams didn't know what they were doing either. Seems like they were successful for so long they didn't need to be deliberate and efficient in their internal processes but growth is forcing the issue. Impossible to have a positive impact even when you have solutions as there are too many "cooks in the kitchen" stepping over each other. Management is "friendly" but not genuinely supportive.

    Advice to Management

Stop criticizing staff and take time to really understand their challenges. Collaborate with them on a plan to genuinely make changes rather than just pushing them out the door. Pay attention to recent turnover for root causes rather than slapping a happy face on everything.
