I have been working at Discover full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance, good benefits (compared to industries outside financial), relaxed culture, nice work environment.

    Cons

Not many chances for advancement once you reach senior. Average pay vs the same companies downtown. Lots of structure and systems to navigate, but technology lags behind on average, and delivery dates are paramount over being Agile.

    Pros

You pretty much don't have to do anything besides answer phone calls. It's pretty cut and dry, as long as you give proper information and show good customer service, you'll be fine. They ask you to be upbeat and happy ALL the time on calls which can be difficult if you've got rude customers or are getting swarmed with calls. When you're not taking calls, which is pretty much only in training or if you're lucky enough to get a role where you don't take calls, the environment is pretty relaxed and everyone is friendly to each other. They do a lot of company activities to try and make up for the fact that you're couped up inside all day.

    Cons

They don't really care about their employees. If you are being mistreated by a customer, unless it's a direct threat to you, you pretty much are helpless and have to continue to be upbeat and happy and apologetic when they're the one being rude. While they do all those company activities mentioned before, all that doesn't make up for the amount of bs you have to take, day in and day out.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, care for employees more, don't let customers be verbally abusive to your employees.

I worked at Discover full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Extremely hard to find in this position.

    Cons

Compensation - regularly changed and never for the better.
Compliance reviews - Discover will try to convince you the things you're being scored on are legitimate banking compliance concerns. Make no mistake, several of the things your call reviews will be based on are purely there to find ways for the company to keep chunks of your already too small bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Close the department already. You're damaging your brand reputation.

I have been working at Discover full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generous PTO, small company feel despite being a large financial institution. Truly value work-life balance.

    Cons

Very long commute, and commuter benefits are decent but could be better.

I worked at Discover part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Used to be a good company.

    Cons

Management seems be universally socially inept and controlling. They want you to think they care about their people but they're like any other corporation.

    Advice to Management

Hire actual managers instead of silly people who don't actually know how to be leaders.

I have been working at Discover full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discover had some very good people.

    Cons

DFS is, without a doubt, the worst company I have ever worked for or with. I don't think they have a clue how to make the work enviroment a good place to work. If you like playing silly games, enjoy being in a high school like enviroment and have no problem being micro managed to the ninth degree, Discover is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Figure out to motivate employees using positve tehnics instead of very negative ones. I would not recommend DFS to anyone.
