I worked at Discovery House full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The early hours of 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM so that I was able to find other valued employment.

    Cons

Who they put in management positions after Acadia took over. It's not about helping people.

    Advice to Management

Seriously pay attention. It's a joke of what you allowed to happen.

I worked at Discovery House full-time

    Pros

The people here are REAL and take pride in their work. This is not all about the numbers and the dollar signs. I have worked in the behavioral health / substance abuse field for years in different companies and this is the first one that I have seen that truely care about the people who call in seeking help. I have heard their intake reps speak to these callers and its not scripted and what makes it even more genuine they are speaking from experience not someone just saying things read out of a textbook. I admire everyone there from Marketing to the call center. They seek on making a difference in someones life and these types of companies you do not find very often. They treat their employees like family and not like a person occupying a space to do work...

    Cons

I do not have any negative thing to say about them.

I worked at Discovery House full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the home atmosphere that the Program Director created not just with the staff, but also the patients. We were constantly encouraged to think of new ways to engage the patients in treatment. The counselors were encouraged to get to know all of the patients, because even though we have a set case load we would be able to work with patients who were on another counselors caseload.

    Cons

There are few cons at the facility I worked in, but I would say the biggest one is that the focus is on money and retention of patients who should have been let go but haven't been. This is because the employees fear being shut down for not making enough money.

I worked at Discovery House as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company has taken the every opportunity to improve the experience of both the clients and employees.

    Cons

Only con I would have about them is that there are not more states they are in.

I worked at Discovery House full-time

    Pros

Get done early to have hobbies or a part time job
Run and structure groups how they fit the counselor's work style

    Cons

Don't use my therapy clinical skills, focus is on keeping patients that shouldn't be there, counselor's work as authoritative figures and not helpers, answering the phone or doing paperwork while in session, no room for growth for patients, expecting patients to make changes without a better therapeutic relationship, unfair incentives, too much gossip

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Discovery House full-time

    Pros

The hours were the only positive benefit. (5:30-2:00)

    Cons

No support from management, he allowed patients to speak and treat employees in whatever manner. Patients were numbers, questioned if the company was even trying to help the patients with their addictions. Favoritism was also an issue.
