I worked at Disney Studios as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Work life balance is the best I've seen. Project funding is never an issue. Flexible schedule. If you have a family and want a 9-5 job it's hard to find better.

    Cons

No freebies even on company products. Lots of unnessary meetings. Working with other divisions can be like steering the titanic. Some legacy projects.

    Advice to Management

    Cut down on unnessary meetings.

Leadership lacking. True leaders are hard to find. Just because they have the title doesn't mean they possess what it takes to motivate others.

    Advice to Management

you can motivate more people by acknowledging them, you know look up and smile.

I worked at Disney Studios as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work under some of the brightest managers in the work force. Innovative Company always pushing forward, anticipates the market and competitors. Great career experience, made invaluable contacts and colleagues. A great example of how a company should be run

    Cons

Hit hard by the down economy while I was there and had to go through a large round of layoffs in which many long time, loyal Disney employees and contractors were cut, had a significant effect on morale. Studio lot seems to be under constant flux and construction

    Advice to Management

Better communication with contract employees, Regular employees as well... while management is extremely sharp and well respected, is still a communication divide and lack of transparency

    Pros

There is immediate access to the industry's top talent and wide exposure with a huge upside for professional growth and development.

    Cons

Studio politics often makes decision making a slow process. Thinking outside the box and taking calculated risks seem to be non-existent in this studio culture.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time and resources in making films with richer stories to reflect the wide interests of its vast audience.

I have been working at Disney Studios full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Laid-back, friendly atmosphere, without the impossible stress and pressures of so many Disney divisions.

    Cons

Work as a contractor, thus no paid vacations, no sick days, no benefits (no Disneyland).

    Advice to Management

In the last year our work for the parks increased Disney's main source of profits by 73%, and yet we are still disenfranchised and treated as second-class citizens.
