    Pros

    Very lively and interesting department, getting to handle different tasks and projects and deal with interesting people and locations.

    Cons

    micromanagement & almost no place for innovation and creativity, after a while the work becomes very repetitive

    Pros

    35 hr workweek, great location and building, lots of good people to work with, work itself is rather low stress

    Cons

    Top down management. Some of the upper level managers are very odd, overall culture is not at all upbeat, unresponsive IT dept, domineering and distant HR dept., people get fired all the time with no warning--they call it "reorganization"

    Pros

    There are some really nice people who work at the Bar. They are family friendly. Best departments to work for when I was there: Pro Bono (the boss, Monika Varma is awesome), Finance also seems good too and the people are close knit.

    Cons

    Depending on the department, it can be DYSFUNCTIONAL and difficult. The leadership likes things a certain way and may not be open to change. Before you accept a job there, try to find out as much as you can about the department you are working for. Some departments have HIGH turnover.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your subordinates and try to take their suggestions. Maybe the Bar would have less turnover if you do.

    Pros

    It's a job and it's very much you put your time in and then you're done.

    Cons

    It's a very stagnant place to work -- the department I was in there wasn't much room for promotion and it was very much of a "this is the way we've done it in the past" and often there wasn't much innovation.

    Pros

    Due to the high turnover rate, they are almost always looking to hire someone. Ok salary considering nonprofit, could be worse. Nice benefits (medical, dental, vision) and if you can stay that long to claim it, then the retirement. Really depends on which department you're in.

    Cons

    They do NOT hire people immediately. Almost everyone gets hired as a TEMP. You'll see A LOT of turnover and constant fear of being called in the office on Friday afternoon (if you know what I mean). Some staffing agency have terminated working with this place, because of people getting fired without notice and cause. Since everyone's a temp, they either get fired or leave because they've found a better job. Very few get turned as permanent. If your temp agency told you you were temp-to hire, be prepared for them drag their feet and wait for almost a year until you do get hired.

    Management's overreaction to tiniest failures leads to constant fear of failure, rather than focus on the actual job. No room for innovation/creativity and very robotic repetitive process. I'm sure it depends on each department, but at my department there's no room for growth. All to add to lack of company culture.

    Listen to your employees and stop micromanaging

    Pros

    Some departments are better than others. Member services seemed to be well run.

    Cons

    Entrenched management that is out of touch with the times and disconnected from employees. Bureaucratic environment. High turnover in some departments, such as Sections.

    Advice to Management

    Cultivate a more open, supportive and transparent work environment.

    It's walking distance from Metrorail ... and a paycheck

    Cons

    Closed, secretive decision-making processes;
    Rigid, top-down management style;
    Byzantine office politics at all levels;
    Risk-averse executives;
    Chronically low morale with chronically high turnover.
