I worked at Dixie State University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great area to live in, small campus with great students.

    Cons

Still thinks small, pays small, and will stay small until they get real university-driven leadership. I thought I was applying for a part-time position when I saw the pay!

    Advice to Management

Board should turn over leadership to people who know how to operate at the university level. They still think like a small town local college even after getting state university status. Their reputation is never going to live up to that until the get rid of the small town college mindset. They can't attract good talent with the dismal pay. And without the talent, they miss out on talented students. without talented students, the reputation stays stagnant.

I have been working at Dixie State University (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to work on-campus with nice coworkers. The outdoor activities are amazing in St. George, UT. The professors are passionate about what they do and care for the students.

    Cons

Admin is ridiculous and culture can be right winged. You can't ruffle any feathers without getting backlash. Working around college age students can get frustrating at times.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid of change. Just because you are older, doesn't always mean you are wiser. Loose the bubble mentality.

I worked at Dixie State University part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly campus, students put forth effort to succeed, beautiful campus.

    Cons

Low salary for adjuncts, no pay for course prep time. Disconnect between full time faculty & adjuncts. Little opportunity for FT employment as the university tends to hire more adjuncts at < 29 hours.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay rate & FT potential. Provide incentive for adjuncts to attend department meetings with offering pay for attendance. Understand many adjuncts work other jobs & may not be able to attend meetings even if paid & ensure they receive meeting minutes via email.

I worked at Dixie State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to live. St. George is one of Utah's best cities. If you love the outdoors all year around St. George is your place. DSU is growing which makes it feel like you are apart of something.

    Cons

Some management is more concerned about letting you know that they are "in charge".

    Advice to Management

Be more concerned about employee welfare rather than your title.

I have been working at Dixie State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment, lack of micromanaging, flexible schedules, pay raises annually

    Cons

Lower pay, non-hostile, intimidating higher ups, strict code of conduct (pro in some cases)

    Advice to Management

Many managers lack the courage to fire indivuals in fear they will be blamed when the fired person collects unemployment. However, when an employee stops coming to work for two months, they need to be fired. Replacing them with an unqualified individual is unexceptable.

I worked at Dixie State University (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a great experience for those new to IT who are wanting to get some real world experience while attending school. After graduating there is the possibility of transitioning into a full-time position, but there is no guarantee.

    Cons

The pay isn't great. If you're only looking for a paycheck then this isn't the place for you.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.
