I worked at Dixons Retail part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to see the latest technology, learn new skills, 10% discount, easy career progression to a certain point. A competitive work environment. Being able to teach customers about something you're passionate about.

    Cons

Sales first customers second, constant push for you to sell a certain percentage of add ons like insurance then having to deal with angry customers when the insurance hasn't covered something. Standard Retail environment complaints

    Advice to Management

Find a balance between customer service and sales that doesn't make your employees appear like vultures to your customers. Know How (if thats still a thing) doesn't work.

    Pros

Nationally known company, Decent opportunites to progress within company if you want to, Flexible working in different parts of the company.

    Cons

Pay for lower ranks is poor.
Middle Management are clueless and change too often.
Will not listen to experienced staff opinions

    Advice to Management

It could be so much better in many ways. Shop floor staff are poorly paid and motivation is done by clueless Managers with a like it or lump it attitude. In turn this leads to a very poor customer experience.

    Pros

The business is not just tweaking, it's a true turnaround. Some of the top people in UK retail are there so the opportunity to work with the best turning the business around is unique.

    Cons

The company has a very poor attitude to personal development and has a weak talent management process. Needs to recognise the hard work of the workforce.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that the business is built on the strength and passion of its people. Whilst everybody is energised by the variety and exciting work, the business needs find better ways to recognise this.

    Pros

good benefits, big company, well known company, fast paced, easy access to m1 and m25 and a1m. local to london

    Cons

limited progression opportunities, difficult culture, just a number not a name. hours are exhaustive and often eat into weekends and evenings

    Advice to Management

train the managment, support the staff, do more staff/line manager reviews, as there are some really good managers and also some managers that really should not be incharge of anyone, let alone a team

I worked at Dixons Retail full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Open door hiring policy. Multicultural mix of staff and management.

    Cons

all load is shifted downwards, even when it is quite easily manageable at middle level, with minimum resource information.

    Advice to Management

Must get dynamic and up to date being a tech. company in soft measure and procedures. Must keep stable outlook and presence on premises to gain customer confidence. There are other ways to make net margin without pressurized selling of insurance.

    Pros

few of the best colleauges I've worked with, in a casual environment. part of Dixon's group which is well known internationally.

    Cons

the worst part of this job is the low salary, and that there are not many opportunities for promoting. with a fairly monotonous work schedule.

    Advice to Management

They should try harder to keep their employees satisfied, especially the ones who have out in a lot of years and effort.
