I worked at Doctors Medical Center, San Pablo full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cancer Program team was one of the best I've worked with. Very caring group of people.

    Cons

The biggest downside to working for Doctors Medical Center-San Pablo was that it was a Community Hospital that was not being supported by the community was a hold. When the ACA became effective, they lost even more financing and had to finally close.

I have been working at Doctors Medical Center, San Pablo part-time

    Pros

Places focus on community perception of services rendered. Nurses, for the most part, are highly attentive to patient needs. However, floor nurses are overworked and underappreciated...

    Cons

RN attrition rates are staggering!!! Nurses leave in batches and seek employment in arenas that place more value on the nurse, rather than on corporate profits. Additionally, nurses flee "gestapo" tactics, and punitive actions...

    Advice to Management

Ask yourselves: Why am I here? What am I doing to retain veteran nurses? What am I doing to address inequities? Look at the billing practices... Look at the cost of hiring/training new nurses (at a mind numbing rate...) Look at Corporate fraud...

    Cons

The management was never organized. Too many chiefs!

I worked at Doctors Medical Center, San Pablo (Less than a year)

    Pros

There wasn't a soul there that I didn't enjoy working with. Everyone was delightful and seemed to enjoy their job.

    Cons

Working around union rules and policies got tedious sometimes...especially with the food services. Cell phone reception was spotty or non-existent in the lower levels of the facilities.

    Advice to Management

I have no idea how to advise on handling unions but it would have been nice to have reliable cell phone services in the lower areas. That may have been handled since I left, however.

    Pros

Helps sick people, hourly employees are very helpful.

    Cons

The Consulting Company hired to help "save" the hospital from closure are actually the ones running it into the ground. Most employees buy their own supplies.

    Advice to Management

Need new Leaders. The left hand don't know what the right hand is doing. Very sad. If you want to know why the hospital is failing start at the top of the chain and rid those money grubbers. Then listen to your employees.

    Pros

Open communications with administrative and supervisory staff. Co-workers are knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Able to adjust well working the night shift. Worked way up to senior level and compensated well.

    Cons

Mostly indigent population, few physicians did not appreciate nurses, nor attended tp patients needs. Gone thru many management and eventually will close hospital. Upper management were paid tremendously.

    Advice to Management

All employees should.ve taken a paycut to save hospital.
