    Cons

    Pto sucks
Only aloud to miss 15 days a year includding your paid vacation
    Insurance plans are terriable
Most people in managment treat you like a number on a spread sheet instead of a humanbeing

I worked at Dohrn Transfer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Steady paycheck. Otherwise no pros.

    Cons

No time and a half. Just straight time after 40 hours. Unsafe equipment. Complete chaos. 14 hour days.

I have been working at Dohrn Transfer full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is focused on employee engagement and improving their reputation.

    Cons

Enormous amount of change in a short amount of time. This is a huge pro, in all reality, but sometimes a struggle to keep up with.

    Advice to Management

Realize the struggle employees go through to keep up with the change, and keep trying to get their engagement in it.

    Pros

All the hours you want. The work is here if your wanting a full 40 hours plus. Running Wisconsin is a good trip too.

    Cons

A lot of the equipment needs some upgrades. Like anywhere there is always something that will need a trip to the shop.

    Advice to Management

Hire more drivers than you need so there is room to grow.

I have been working at Dohrn Transfer full-time

    Pros

You will get lots of hours, 50 - 55 hours a week no problem. It is a very laid back work environment, without very much micro managing. Health and Dental insurance are decent.

    Cons

No overtime until after you have worked there for 3 years. Yes really, they won't pay you overtime after 40 hours and no it is not illegal. No vacation for your first year. 2nd and 3rd shift are the only options for dock workers. It's a revolving door for both management and hourly employees.

    Advice to Management

If you pay overtime you will dramatically decrease worker turnover

I worked at Dohrn Transfer full-time

    Pros

Decent pay but you'll work long hours. Consistent schedule and at least you get some benefits.

    Cons

    No 401k match
    No communication.
    No value on employee feedback.
Will run you into the ground.

    Advice to Management

Invite feedback from your employees. Value them. Spend money to save money. I've never been somewhere that is so blind to obvious needs. They won't spend a dime even though it would save them $100. Could be a great place to work if communication was valued and welcome.

    Advice to Management

Learn to manage people and not just numbers

    Pros

The pay has vastly improved and the partnership with Hammel Companies has really started to improve with newer equipment and improving on policies, processes and more of an emphasis on safety. The Dohrn family has really sacrificed to make things right with long term employees.

    Cons

It's difficult especially at RKF to work on image and improve employee morale with the same people in place during the transition that have been running the show for the last several years that have fueled the divisiveness and instigation in the past. I respect our management but this aspect of improving things has been thus far overlooked. Benefits could be better. Advancement opportunities limited to a select few.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees about what's really happening at your terminals. Most of us would run through a brick wall for this company if we had management that respected and appreciated your employees like so many other companies already do.
