I worked at Dole Food full-time

    Pros

International business exposure; good career opportunites; generally excellent professional staff; strong teamwork ethic.

    Cons

Medium term strategy is unclear after company went private in 2013 for second time. Sense of uncertainty increased after significant restructuring. Few in corporate staff seem to fully understand the global business.

    Advice to Management

Strengthen the succession plan. Restore employee motivation.

I have been working at Dole Food full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very organized, pretty understanding about requesting time off, all management staff are nice. No mean people. You have a set schedule and never work more than a half hour past closing. I enjoyed the customer interaction too.

    Cons

Very physical work, constantly lifting boxes, restocking the retail store, serving long lines of food and beverage customers. Very little room for promotion. From the position of summer associate you basically have the option of becoming full time in the same position or moving to cashier, which pays the same but less physical work. The only upward promotion I saw when working there was moving up to being a cook.

I have been working at Dole Food full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company is all about great quality food and sustainability. The people I worked with were great.

    Cons

The owner, David Murdock is well past his prime, yet he doesn't seem to know it or what to believe it. He's sends the management team and ultimately the staff on one chase after another instead of allow the company to do what it does best and that is to focus on great products and improving efficiency of all related processes.

    Advice to Management

Encourage Murdock to retire. Get DeLorenzo back!

    Pros

My department was small but we worked well as a team and I had a great boss.

    Cons

My department, among others, was outsourced after a division was sold.

    Advice to Management

Stress level is extremely high in this corporate environment; a lot of it was unnecessary.

I worked at Dole Food full-time

    Pros

The company offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Very professional setting and fresh snacks in the afternoon.

    Cons

I like a professional environment but it seemed a little too stuffy for me. It was cold and didn't seem like anybody enjoyed their jobs or fellow colleagues.

    Advice to Management

The management needs to be approachable. There is a clear distinction between management and regular employees.

    Pros

Great PTO benefits that makes it worthwhile. You can build up to at least five weeks of time off very easily.

    Cons

Lax on accountability within departments. Challenging to be promoted on merits, have to be "one of the few".

I worked at Dole Food part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good company to work in, I was lucky to have a good manager who helped me grow. I enjoyed working under pressure and finishing tasks on or before time.

    Cons

Work load fluctuates a lot. There are times when you have nothing to do and on the other hand there are times when you have to put in extra hours to get something done.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on employee development. There are other areas of improvement as well. It is short staffed at times so that makes the work load fluctuate a lot. I would advice them to look for
