I worked at Dollar General part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy job, might enjoy people you work with and chatting with vendors

    Cons

No discount, manager will always expect you to be able to cover, expect lectures about how your pay is adequate and stealing time is the same as stealing money. No respect, the company isnt good to work for.

    Advice to Management

Stop apreading shrink blame to everyone, and dont give out adequate wage bs, its barely above minimum.

I worked at Dollar General full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The best part of the job was working with the friendly "regulars" customers.

    Cons

The cashiers and even key holders were on a rotating-door status. No one ever stayed very long. This meant that I often had to handle conflicts, de-escalate my store manager, carry a high workload, and train new employees.

    Advice to Management

An overwhelmed store manager who is doing poorly will snowball and create problems among every area of the store, team, and productivity.

I worked at Dollar General full-time

    Pros

Assistant Managers are not required to work over 40 hours a week

    Cons

Managers were required to do a ridiculous amount of work without adequate help to accomplish the work load.

I worked at Dollar General (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy job if you work 4 hour shifts

    Cons

Extremely low pay, you pretty much work with another co-worker, which is the key holder or manager, management will complain about the hours they work but never give their hours to their employees, it can get extremely busy if management has you doing other things while being the cashier

I have been working at Dollar General part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Coworkers are nice.
Time passes quickly because you stay busy.

    Cons

The pay is too low and the work load is too high. If you are on the register you have to check out customers and stock and recover aisles in between. Sometimes it is so busy and you can't get away from the register long enough to complete other tasks. Customers are always frustrated from standing in long lines because half the time there is only one register open and many times only two employees in the store. The store gets disorganized and messy and no one has time to clean properly. There are never enough hours on payroll to adequately staff the store. The store I work at used to be a grocery store and the building is twice the size of most Dollar Generals but is staffed at the same level as the smaller stores! This week the truck brought 45 rolltainers that have to be stocked in 2 days time. Only two employees are scheduled to stock the food and the manager has been stocking chemicals by herself. It is ridiculous!

    Advice to Management

Give more hours for payroll so the store can function properly.
    Pay your employees better.
Staff larger stores appropriately to their size.
Quit trying to run a store with 1 or 2 people and expecting, spotless stores, neat fully stocked shelves, and 100% customer satisfaction!
