I have been working at Dollar General part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small environment means you get to really know your coworkers and regular customers

    Cons

Schedules are only given 1 week in advance on a Thursday so making weekend plans isn't possible until then. The job is exhausting even part time. You are constantly stocking if not working with customers and are paid minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Give us schedules in advance and make requesting time off easier. Hire more people if you need to instead of calling employees the night before to cover extra hours

I worked at Dollar General part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They hire almost anyone. The training is pretty easy and common sense. You meet a lot of people which is cool.

    Cons

They said they would "work with" my schedule but they truly didn't try. They always gave me the shift nobody wanted, the night shift. Only two employees work per shift and that's not enough for those rush periods, especially when unforeseen circumstances appear. Lastly, they did not give me work for 3 weeks, saying they'd "call me" if they needed me. They didn't.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the manager is doing their job. My manager even told me she didn't like doing a lot of the work she had to (such as paperwork) and had the assistant manager do it. Also make sure you have enough hours to hire people before you do because then you claim you "don't have hours" that week.

I worked at Dollar General part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-hours, you'll pick up shifts and average +30 hours

    Cons

    -an overreliance on hardworking employees

    Advice to Management

Assistant Managers and Leads will overwork the responsible Associates. At many points I was in charge of load, working the front, and recovery as the only person on the floor. I burned out too quickly from doing too much without any compromise. I did not feel valued and management did not consider my feedback and after half a year I had enough.

I have been working at Dollar General full-time

    Pros

Have stepped up in Compensation for position than previous.

    Cons

Hard to reach bonuses, extremely long hours due to almost constant turnover primarily due to extremely low uncompetitive pay rates for employees

    Advice to Management

Build your 1000 stores a year, but stop running store level staff off of spreadsheets. Let DM's have more control over focused areas

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, and exercise daily

    Cons

Customers can complain, get you fired.

    Advice to Management

Look at an employees work and non-work. An unfair balance of daily chores which some employees ignore and others pick up the slack.

I worked at Dollar General full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Truck was simple. Stocking was easy. Not that much paperwork for management. Easy to move up in the store. Have some good customers

    Cons

I was there for 6hrs by myself to run the whole store. Short staffing problems. Payroll sucked. High turnover rate at my store.

    Advice to Management

Don’t allow anyone to be in the store by themselves. It was so uncomfortable!
