I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a good start to a career in retail. Interesting business model.

    Cons

Very antiquated, stringent, non progressive company. There is no career path so turnover is quite high. Office moral is extremely low, it is depressing and almost toxic. There are no company perks to speak of. HR seems to be broken and ineffective.

    Advice to Management

How about appreciating and investing in your PEOPLE.

    Pros

Good Reputation, simple business model, can learn a lot about retail in this environment.

    Cons

Bad Morale, No room for growth, too much work, too few people.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your people while you have them, not when they find a new job.

I worked at Dollar Tree full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits: zero health care premium for employee, company pays all; vision and dental benefits have really low premiums
Decent bonuses: employees can earn up to $125 per month in bonuses, but only when the conditions are met, which doesn't happen a lot
Paid lunch: 30 minute lunch on the clock, but it's the only break you get in 8 hours and can't leave the building

    Cons

Attendance policy: policy doesn't not take into account unexpected illnesses; even with a doctor's note, a lost day for illness counts against employee; this policy is not for those with chronic diseases or other health conditions
Management team: overall the management team is very apathetic to employee issues; very hostile environment for management-level personnel; good managers don't last long there; interest and empathy soon turn to disassociation and apathy

    Advice to Management

Be less political, with each other and towards the associates. Cut budget on monthly awards and bonuses and move it to upgrading equipment and facilities. Concentrate more on QUALITY instead of quantity. Poor quality kills quantity production. Reward quality not quantity. Make quality individually accountable.

I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice building—cafeteria, outdoor courtyard, coffee bar, artwork from local artists here and there on the walls. Solid benefits. Greenbrier is a cool area. Seem willing to hire younger, less-experienced people, so it's a good place to get your "foot in the door."

    Cons

Poor work/life balance. Negative, unhappy work atmosphere. Not enough employees for the workload. No support from management. Total lack of communication between employees/management/upper management. Constant corporate drama. Several toxic personalities in the mix. Saw another reviewer mention the "extreme culture of micromanaging and finger-pointing"—that is absolutely true.

    Advice to Management

You've hired a group of talented, enthusiastic people, but you offer them no support, minimal job satisfaction, and no room for growth. Learn to show employees they are valued, or don't be surprised when the entire team moves on as soon as possible.

    Advice to Management

    Be more lively, inspire, encourage.

I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time

    Pros

Benefits, some of my co-workers but not many

    Cons

Depends on your supervisor. Most are power hungry and threatened by anyone with a brain. Can't trust anyone.

    Advice to Management

Not everyone in management is able to supervise. Some need more work instead of socializing with their supervisors.

I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Pretty good benefits. Flexible schedule for the most part. They just purchased Family Dollar!

    Cons

Management has changed to a more big corporate feel. Most of the people that were there since the beginning have left. Nobody important really knows who you are. Will promise you the moon.

    Advice to Management

Just try to have some team building. Everyone just seems so isolated from one another.

I worked at Dollar Tree full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best thing about Dollar Tree were my co-workers and that it was a financially stable company.

I loved my job tremendously and left on my own, due to a fantastic job offer.

    Cons

Unfairness to employees, company politics, poor pay raises, favoritism among employees.

My immediate supervisor tried to intimidate me into following his rules and not company policy. He does not like women and especially those that challenge him. Supervisor had very poor communication skills and interpersonal skills.

A Vice President intimidates and bullies people in his department if they disagree with anything he says.

Very few female executives and very few executives that are not Caucasian.

Take home pay decreased every year for about 5 years, due to very low pay increases and continues increases in health care costs and taxes. I could no longer afford to work there.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees and prove that they are valued. Most of them work very hard for DT and deserve to be treated better.
