I have been working at Dollar Tree part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The customers are super nice and enjoyable. The job (cashier) is not too demanding either physically or mentally.

    Cons

The manager seems to be racist. Whole staff save two people are from her ethnic group and she is noticeably short and intolerant with staff who are not her race. The Company seems to have no training program, preferring to loose new hires on the job and then gripe when something is not right.

    Advice to Management

Apply rules equally to all staff and do not hold dear the belief that all peons are evil, thieving or stupid.

I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work is easy enough, the corporate building has a decent cafeteria, there is a coffee bar, the restrooms are clean.

    Cons

Everyone walks around frowning, the people that have worked there longer than a few months talk about how overworked they are, bad communication, lower than average pay, health insurance is the lowest possible type they can give, no work/life balance, no training, no recognition.

    Advice to Management

Make it more of a welcoming environment. Flex hours, work from home, actually provide some training and not just some notes from the previous employee to go by, this will help with the lack of communication and frustration it places on everyone.

I have been working at Dollar Tree part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You will work if you actually want to.
Fairly flexible scheduling when reasonable notice is given for needed days off.
Lovely regular customers and many nice coworkers.
If your schedule permits, you will sometimes be able to work extra hours if they need you to.
Casual "uniform" - green colored collared shirt of your choice, black or khaki long pants of your choice, even black jeans are ok. No blue jeans though, ever. On and around holidays there is "Dress To The Tree" which means you can wear holiday colors, even sports jerseys for the start of baseball and football seasons.

    Cons

    No employee discounts whatsoever.
They are almost always hiring more part time people, so you rarely get scheduled more than 12-18 hours a week as a part time associate. Max hours for non managerial positions is 25 hours a week but it is nearly never utilized.
10 minute paid breaks are gone too quickly if you need to use the restroom and want to have a drink or snack, with the time consuming and burdensome employee purchase protocol.

    Advice to Management

You need to work your available part timers the max they are willing to take, before hiring more people and spreading hours thinner. You might reduce turnover rates and have more reliable employees.
Please please PLEASE consider 15 minute paid breaks instead of 10.
Don't understaff stores, there should always be two associates and a manager on duty except at opening when it's slow.

    Pros

Good place, job, and environment. Easy and steady work. Time tends to go by fast. Merchandise fairly easy to stock, not too heavy.

    Cons

No real growth especially money wise. They drag a raise usually everyone is underpaid. It is believed that's how headquarters want it to be.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better.
