I have been working at Dominican University of California full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Staff knows what to do and gets it done. We are tired of putting up with poor communication and we are taking matters into our own hands. The staff council is relentlessly pursuing information that is critical for doing our jobs well. We got the kids in and settled with very little support from VPs and the Pres

    Cons

The leadership gaps are painfully obvious. We need strong revenue drivers, ethical leaders

    Advice to Management

you are losing major, major components of theDominican Team. This would not have happened if you had not blown it with the poorly planned health care switch

I have been working at Dominican University of California full-time

    Pros

Good health benefits and time off at the holidays. The campus is very well-maintained and the gym is a great facility.

    Cons

You can sit across from someone in a meeting for a few years and they'll introduce themselves to you over and over as if you've never met. Dominican is very much a "...and you are who?" culture.
No pay increases and we've only gotten measly COLA twice....and I've been here for several years.
Great place for someone just getting started in higher ed or a Marin local looking for a job without concern about salary or needs something to do until official retirement. If you are mid-level, you will not be compensated for your experience. Your only reward for coming up with ideas and fresh solutions is resistance, whining, more work on your plate, and no career mobility at any time.

    Advice to Management

When will faculty and staff's time get as expensive as tuition? Expect more people to leave. We aren't valued.

I have been working at Dominican University of California full-time

    Pros

Great supportive environment from colleagues, freedom to take part in workshops, and the students are fun to work with.

    Cons

Pay freezes occur when student enrollment is down and there is a clear hierarchy system so you 'know your place'.

I have been working at Dominican University of California full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Dominican has a great sense of community and is a good University. The campus is beautiful. Great perks for employees like free education for immediate family, tuition exchange program.

    Cons

Non-profit means non-profit salaries, work spaces vary widely depending in what building you work. Cost to attend is high.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Dominican University of California as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a beautiful campus and a wonderful teaching faculty. The Department of Occupational Therapy is very well run. The adjuncts are now unionized. This is a perfect position for a retired OT like myself who also has other sources of income. I am not currently teaching, but I can jump in and teach a course whenever I can work it out with the chair of the department.

    Cons

Adjunct positions do not offer that many hours, no benefits, a rather low salary.

    Advice to Management

I think the management of the OT Department at Dominican is doing a great job.

I have been working at Dominican University of California as an intern

    Pros

This has been such a positive experience because of the management/team as a whole. Everyone makes you feel welcome and treats you with respect.

    Cons

I have zero complaints, but Glassdoor tells me I need to reach at least twenty words in this section.
