I worked at Doosan Babcock full-time

    Pros

There was a significant amount of international experience

    Cons

They really don't know what they're doing. Most of their projects tend to be over budget, past schedule, and poorly designed. Very poorly managed from the UK and Korea

    Advice to Management

You can't use the European or the Asian model to be a success in the US. You have to be able to play in the tall grass if you plan to survive over here. You need to have your engineering done in the US; not the UK.

    Pros

Some really hardworking people who are passionate about their job.
Plenty of opportunities for young, talented and hardworking people to shine and get noticed.
    Early finish on a Friday.

    Cons

Diminishing returns from legacy markets and not getting enough traction in new ones.
Overbearing parent company creates top down culture where many people are working on non-value adding tasks.

I worked at Doosan Babcock full-time

    Pros

The staff were great and handled constant change pretty well. The hours weren't too bad and the offices were fine.

    Cons

The company was in constant turmoil with reshuffles and reorganisations every year. Management didn't really listen to staff complaints and the staff were blamed for everything that went wrong. There was a lot of talk about how much the company valued the staff but it never seemed to impact on how you were treated.

    Advice to Management

Stop the annual reshuffles and listen to the staff

I have been working at Doosan Babcock full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Really good technical and project people to work with. The company is trying to change from its previous expertise in coal-fired boiler projects to greener and lower risk products and services.

    Cons

The company has hit a rough patch especially in the Crawley office as part of the transition to new products and services. In making the transtion there has been too much focus on strategy and consultants and not enough on doing the day job.

    Advice to Management

Keep people on board through the changes with routine and natural communication, talk to people rather than rely on only on corporate communication initiatives.

I worked at Doosan Babcock (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good shop floor staff, full of helpful and decent people at the lower levels, good atmosphere, varied work

    Cons

Low job security, no chance of career progression, management far too detached, invisible unless they're having a go at staff. Wages not on a par with other companies

    Advice to Management

Be more visible, praise staff when things go well instead of only criticising when things don't go well (very rare anyway)

    Pros

Great company to work for last of the best.

    Cons

Pity about upper management totally out of touch with the people who make the finished product, what do you expect with a dinosaur company, they haven't a clue whats happening on the shop floor, all there interested is profit, they forget where they come from

    Advice to Management

Get out of your backside and get down to where the work is , lend a hand if you can and stop being money grabbing people or is that the Doosan way of doing things

    Pros

    Petrol allowance if at site
    Lodging allowance if at site

    Cons

Hierarchy of the company haven't got a clue about how to move forward.
Company full of promises of progression and opportunities, only offered to select persons.
    Low chance of salary progression.
    Poor people management/compassion.

    Advice to Management

Show more interest in employee development, get involved with assisting in career progression rather than spending much of their time on social media boasting about health and safety awards.

    Pros

    High salary after first year
    Good experience to be gained
Good opportunity of work to fall into afterwards
    Opportunity for travel overseas

    Cons

    Not 100% secure once finished
Training can be hard to secure depending on where you're working and who has to fund it

    Advice to Management

    Treat ex-apprentices as continued investments

I have been working at Doosan Babcock (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to travel. Generally well paid. Fair and reasonable employer.

    Cons

Current dodgy Korean ownership and difficult trading conditions within its industry. Questions over its long terms prospects.

    Advice to Management

Stand up to the Korean ownership. Remove unnecessary bureaucracy. Too many overheads who don't add to the business.
