    Pros

Unique ability to deliver specialized automotive repair products to a diverse aftermarket. They are agile, astute, profitable and quickly build barriers to competition. Middle management and lower level employees are wonderful to work with.

    Cons

Silo-based culture where too much time is spent on the politics and not enough on the customer. Mental intimidation is the norm and unless you're connected to the right people, you'll quickly be pigeon-holed into a subservient role and quickly hate life. If you don't pledge complete devotion by working around the clock, you'll be on the out quickly. They are quick to conduct unwarranted firings and are known to blackball even seasoned industry veterans; seldom if ever rehiring. Rigorous outdated non-competes should give any professional candidate pause.

    Advice to Management

Care about people not just shareholder value.

I have been working at Dorman Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Casual attire. Ability to telecommute when situations warrant it. Many contributor appreciation events. Consistent drive for new product development.

    Cons

Below average compensation.Culture of Contribution touted by management is a myth. Highly competitive environment, with high turnover. Trusted, hard-working employees are fired on a whim. Culture of terror. Management is ever changing - expect to report to a new manager at every 3 or 4 months. Ever-changing processes. Will not recognize talent from within. The solution is always to hire from the outside, or bring consultants in.

    Advice to Management

Drop the Culture of Contribution pretense. Remember the company Richard built.

    Pros

Good people inside the building ... The Engineers and the worker bees really know there stuff ... Most managers and directors are pretty knowledgeable ...

    Cons

... some managers have been promoted that maybe shouldn't have been. It seems that in some departments, there is a lack of direction.

I worked at Dorman Products (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Casual attire. Ability to telecommute when situations warrant it. Many contributor appreciation events. Consistent drive for new product development

    Cons

Some of the other reviews are spot on. There has been high employee turnover with some key departments. Many young inexperienced contributors have been hired and/ or promoted at the expense of some seasoned veterans. There is still an old boy club, where certain individuals can pretty much do whatever they want without pushback. People have been hired without any relevant experience and made to look like superstars just because they know the right people. Finally, long term growth prospects are limited as many of the key accounts have their own sourcing teams with the specific goal to cut out" middleman "companies like Dorman.

    Advice to Management

Remove the old boy network. Give HR have some power to stop the nonsense of the various hiring/firing issues across some departments.

    Pros

This is a growing company, lots of opportunities in sales and engineering. They really try to do the right things in small ways, such as casual dress code, barbecues etc.

    Cons

Due to the company's growth, it is becoming excessively political. Bad actors are rewarded, faithful and hard workers are punished.

    Advice to Management

End the caste system which puts sales and product teams at the top, allowing them to abuse other teams. Get rid of contributors that are motivated by hate, politics and pettiness.

I worked at Dorman Products full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Oriented around an 8-hour work day, leaving plenty of time for family.

    Cons

Tough to get ahead if you aren't friends with the "right" people. Too much turnover in management and too much change of direction in goals.

    Advice to Management

Lose the good old boy network attitude. Others have valuable ideas and contributions that would make this a friendlier company for outsiders.

    Pros

I liked the cafeteria, the clean enviroment and they keep warm inside when is cold

    Cons

If you are temporary, the older workers want you to do everything for them and they take the easy job, the forklift driver want me to move heavy skid with a pallet jack and he was supposed to move with the forklift, just for him to go to talk with his friends, don't miss one day to work because they fire you, just for one day

I have been working at Dorman Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At the lower levels of the IT department, there are some excellent technical staff at this company. Also, one can work remotely when needed. Pay is in line with the industry overall.

    Cons

Another contributor to this site stated that some of the IT departments management were in over their head – and I find that to be quite true as well. The management in the IT department has neither the required experience, skills, or temperament for their positions. Further, it seems that anyone who dares to disagree with them finds themselves out the door. No doubt that this is a major contributor to the high turnover and lingering problems in this IT organization.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers who actually know how to “Manage” (i.e. plan, think ahead, communicate, and leverage the skills that exist in their department), not former low-level IT workers who have simply been given the title “Manager”. Senior management should also attempt to change the mode of operation in the IT department from “Cover Your Ass and Keep Your Job” to “Let’s Attack Things as a Team”.

I worked at Dorman Products as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

They keep up to date with technology .
    The hours are reasonable.
It is close to the public transportation

    Cons

There is no real team environment, a lot of time is spent gossiping.
The employee's rights aren't protected by HR policy.

    Advice to Management

Listen to expert advice instead of people that are just interested in job security.
