I have been working at Douglas County School District (CO) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Access to leading edge technology, great personalities and a noble cause: our children. At times, we even get our students back as employees, which is really rewarding to see.

    Cons

Rapid change, significant turnover and too many projects being introduced simultaneously. It's difficult to do anything well when expectations are constantly evolving.

    Advice to Management

Develop what we already have with the staff we've got. Limit the number of additional projects until current ones are in production long enough to yield results.

    Pros

More available resources than I have had access to in other districts

    Cons

Dysfunctional leadership, unrealistic demands, Culture of enabling and parent pleasing for fear of lawsuits which is not meeting the needs of students. Hardest working staff I have ever worked with but stress and burnout are rampant

    Advice to Management

Honor your teachers and workload. Remember we are here because we strive for excellence and a commitment to communities, education and our future. We could do amazing things if you let us focus on the work. Stop having meetings just to have meetings. Let professional development be relevant or excuse those who it is not relevant to. Let us have 1 school, or paperwork days. There was never enough time. Honor and respect us

I worked at Douglas County School District (CO) full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked with incredibly intelligent and talent teachers and principals!

    Cons

The superintendent and BOD have created a community of chaos for students, staff, and community members.

Teachers are put against one another, which eliminates the whole idea of collaboration.
    Teachers are not fairly compensated.
Teacher are mentally and emotionally abused.

    In turn, who suffers?

First, the very people we are there to serve - the students.
    Secondly, the parents.
    Lastly, the community.

    Advice to Management

Do your research on best practices!! Stop lying about finances, etc. Stop bullying. Practice what you preach!! Fire Fagen and her cohorts because they have managed to destroy the highest ranking school district in Colorado in less than 10 years.
