I worked at Douglas County School District (CO) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great school with great teachers, District provided a lot of PD in Project based learning and other areas

    Cons

extreamly large school with over 740 students and not enough support for specials teachers with this number of students

    Advice to Management

Support the staff rather than the parents with solutions to problems that may not have ever been discussed with the teacher from the parent/students.

I have been working at Douglas County School District (CO) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Access to leading edge technology, great personalities and a noble cause: our children. At times, we even get our students back as employees, which is really rewarding to see.

    Cons

Rapid change, significant turnover and too many projects being introduced simultaneously. It's difficult to do anything well when expectations are constantly evolving.

    Advice to Management

Develop what we already have with the staff we've got. Limit the number of additional projects until current ones are in production long enough to yield results.

    Pros

More available resources than I have had access to in other districts

    Cons

Dysfunctional leadership, unrealistic demands, Culture of enabling and parent pleasing for fear of lawsuits which is not meeting the needs of students. Hardest working staff I have ever worked with but stress and burnout are rampant

    Advice to Management

Honor your teachers and workload. Remember we are here because we strive for excellence and a commitment to communities, education and our future. We could do amazing things if you let us focus on the work. Stop having meetings just to have meetings. Let professional development be relevant or excuse those who it is not relevant to. Let us have 1 school, or paperwork days. There was never enough time. Honor and respect us
