I worked at Douglas Emmett full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

CFO is fantastic and is very much in the know of day to day details. Real world hands on experience and exposure was fantastic. Very professional, corporate culture.

    Cons

Occasional micro managing. A bit behind in terms of software, hardware and utilization of newer technology in an effort to make your daily duties easier. A bit overwhelming in terms of job responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

I'd urge direct managers to steer clear of micro managing. I find it hinders the ability to create and cultivate personal responsibility for the tasks. I felt I was wearing too many hats and would have enjoyed and performed better at my position if our department had a larger team to help out with the responsibilities. Various components of this particular position could have been full time jobs on their own. It would have also been particularly helpful to utilize remote access to servers to work from home and not be held to a strict 8-5 schedule.

I have been working at Douglas Emmett full-time

    Pros

Joining the DM team has thus far been a great experience. The on-boarding process has been very warm and welcoming. This company is very organized, genuinely cares about their employees, lots of opportunity for growth, big on promoting within, user friendly software systems to facilitate your daily work flow, and feels very much like a family oriented place to work.

    Cons

No casual Fridays, "daily exchange" meetings can get a bit monotonous and not the best use of time, no flex schedules, and some of their rules can seem a bit "corporate" which goes against the "new school" of thinking in our generation.

    Pros

One of the very structured and stable company's I have ever worked, or maybe pretty who I worked for in my entire career. Douglas Emmett is fantastic company to work for. You can grow with the company if you show efforts and if you are strong and creative understanding their goals and expectations. They will award you for your hard work and will teach you.

    Cons

The main thing is to understand the vision of the principals in a positive way. The delivery might be intimidating however the big picture results the employee's tenure for a stable company. You just have to understand the vision of the leaders.

    Advice to Management

More open communication and consistency in policies would be beneficial. It used to be very open and easy to talk to under the previous leadership.

    Pros

This is really a family based company. If you are starting your career, it is a great place to learn and grow, as there is a long history of promoting from within. There is lots of support and many people looking out for you to help you succeed. The company culture reflects a set of care values which we try very hard to embody. The vision statement is not just written on a card, it is practiced and shared on a daily basis.

    Cons

This is a publicly traded company, which comes with a lot of oversight.
