I have been working at Dow Chemical as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture is independent yet cooperative. Projects are meaningful, and there is little down time.

    Cons

Along with the above, it can be stressful. Sometimes information is slow to reach from leadership to average employees.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent in information, and less reactionary.

    Pros

    Relaxed culture and good pay

While the culture is very relaxed it can also be very political, especially in the higher ranks.

    Advice to Management

Provide your interns with more work, we often sit around bored with nothing to do.

I have been working at Dow Chemical as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Company provides comfortable, consistent pay - which makes it really easy on you as a college student to pay for books/tuition/etc.; so that's nice. There is some relatively challenging and fun work, work hours during the 'busy times' can fly by extremely fast.

    Cons

If you're looking for a job that is purely project based, then don't apply for any admin-level coops. If you are content with admin work (stocking, ordering, managing calendars, etc.) you will enjoy the coops at Dow, but if you want to push the envelope and build your skills the opportunities are not exactly consistent.

    Advice to Management

Utilize coops for more than just scheduling and stocking. College students are full of new ideas, and whether or not the ideas might be sound and well-thought out - you never know when a high-quality thought might arise.

I worked at Dow Chemical full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Outstanding work processes, Good place to develop as an engineer if you're a self learner.

    Cons

bureaucracy , compensation lagging behind others, companies tend to bring up good engineers then loose them to competition after 3-5 yrs.

    Advice to Management

step up to the competition. be accountable for mistakes made at the upper management level. Value your employees by compensating them better. Otherwise you will keep loosing them to competition. You will only get talent from industries with lesser margins if you don't stay ahead of the curve.

I worked at Dow Chemical as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Research Park at UIUC (close location to campus), many other interns from UIUC (about 15 total), good collection of people. Nice place to spend a summer. very lenient on taking vacation days!

    Cons

Pay is low, was not willing to negotiate
Paired with mentor off-site, therefore video conferencing was the main point of contact with mentor. Lots of miscommunication. Felt like I didn't learn as much as I had hoped to. Was doing a lot of my mentor's busy work. There were on-site full times, but it's not their job to help you really.
Is a good sophomore-junior year internship.

    Advice to Management

Have more help with the interns. Check-in more. Help them find interesting stuff to do.
