    Pros

Pay was great! Experienced engineers helped younger engineers. Dow offered lots of training to everybody. I always felt my plant managers were monitoring my career growth.

    Cons

In order to meet budgets, repair of equipment was often delayed. As a result, Plant A in Freeport is in disrepair.

    Advice to Management

Repair old plants or shut them down.

    Pros

The level of autonomy given to junior-level employees is very attractive. The training and development opportunities abound and compensation is very competitive. The people are what make the company great. High quality all around

    Cons

Headquarters location makes retaining top talent difficult. Industry cycles and feedstock costs make the Dow's continued prosperity questionable. Diverse and progressive, but a bit too paternal for the 21st century.

    Advice to Management

Continue to seek out experienced hire to help transform your businesses. Even in tough times, try to be as transparent and frank with employees as you are in good times. Top quality leadership - rivals corporate America's best.

    Pros

Excellent experience. You will learn SAP, and you will control all of the production at one or more chemical plants. Very high level of responsibility.

    Cons

Threat of outsourcing, low pay scale, limited upward mobility, management doesn't understand what the production scheduler does.

    Advice to Management

Learn what a DPS, EMS, RS, and MS does. Take the Supply Chain Academy and learn. You make decisions based on who whines the most. Don't pawn work off to someone else when you don't understand what you are asking someone else to do.

    Pros

With a company this big they are able to almost custom make a internship/ co-op experience. If you are looking for a company which is supportive of employees working towards finding their own role and interests Dow Chemical is the company for you.

    Cons

As with any chemical company often times plant locations are not too desirable. Also if you are looking for a small company feel Dow Chemical is not for you, even-though plants themselves may be tight-knit the company as a whole is very large.

    Advice to Management

The management I had experience with was very hands on and informative. I would suggest maybe more directive advice on scope of projects.

    Pros

    Top in its industry
Acquires other companies that match its strategic growth objectives
    Excellent employee stock purchase plan
    Good overall benefits
Salaries competitive with industry and within IT
    Good growth/development opportunities

    Cons

Large projects are have tight timelines, tight budgets and less than desirable staffing for the workload
Medical benefits are good - monthly cost low for employees, but as with most companies, each year requiring higher co-pays, out-of-pocket and prescription costs

    Advice to Management

Continue good work begun already to increase / improve communication between management and staff. Increase communication methods beyond email (as email volume has spiraled out of control in today's workplace; thereby losing its effectiveness). Continue to embrace innovation and flexibility in work processes over traditional/historical ways the company has done business in the past.

    Pros

Focus is on safety - more safety - and more safety! If the job is not safe, it is not done! Sense of community within the site and team within the block.

    Cons

Prior incidents have instilled a culture of check, double-check and triple check. For me, I like this but it may not be for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing - your track record the over the last 5-7 years is outstanding and I think it will continue to excel in the future.

    Pros

    -Competitive salary
    -Great corperate strategy
-Work with some of the best and brightest in the industry
-Very open and communicative corperate culture. Great communication at all levels.
-Safety. Dow has one of the best safety programs in the industry with process safety pemployees involved in a wide range of international consortiums etc.

    Cons

-Performance review methodology causes significant angst amongst employees. Forces people into a ranked system with capped quantities of employees allowed in each rank. Quite subjective and depending on how good of a leader you have, could result in questionable rankings.

    Advice to Management

Revamp the performance review methodology. It is universally disliked and not well understood by the significant majority of employees.
