        I worked at Downey Savings

        Pros

Joined Downey at the start of the internet call centers and was impressed with the resources poured into making a splash in the market at that time. 7 figures spent on gaining SEO dominance

        Cons

Unfortunately, time and money was not spent on figuring out a way to close all the loans generated. Disorganization and lack of national closing contacts led to 90% or more of those loans going down the drain.

        Advice to Management

Needed to have all their ducks in a row before launching.

        Pros

Great people, nice building, location, staff, parking structure, room for growth, competitive benefits, 401K retirement plan, Human resources, knowledge base,

        Cons

Downey Savings and loan was one of the many banks that went under due to the mortgage crisis. Loan execs lead the company under.

        Advice to Management

Mr. McCalister should have not trusted those he let manage loans for his company. Once was a conservative bank went under do to the funding of ARMS.

        I worked at Downey Savings

        Pros

Corporate office was located in an upscale area of Orange county. The Downey Savings building has a great facade.

        Cons

To advance in the company, one must be related to Senior Management or must know how to put $$$$ in the major investor's pocket.

        I worked at Downey Savings

        Pros

DSL was a family company, with a fairly conservative outlook. Many people were employed by Downey for 20+ years. Business side folks were knowledgeable about industry practices and trends.

        Cons

Often *too* conservative in its outlook. Investments in technology were done haphazardly. Silos were prevalent in many areas of the company.

        Advice to Management

Too late to give advice to Downey Savings and Loans management, as the company was seized by federal regulators in 2008 and became a part of US Bank.
