I have been working at Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

All the previous reviews from disgruntled employees are laughable! This company offers lots of upward growth and opportunity for people who take their job seriously. They offer great salaries and insurance after 90 days. Management attempts to work around complicated schedules and demands.

    Cons

Lots of immaturity. Although there are a handful of people that are there for the right reasons, a majority just want to hang and not put in the work.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the bad apples, the whiners, and people who take morale down. Reward and empower those that are there to help the team.

I worked at Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pro- there's a kurig in the brake room

    Cons

Clients, hourly wage, hours, brakes, management, owners, lack of necessities

    Advice to Management

Relax. Stop taking this dead end job out on your employees. You literally do nothing in comparison to what they do and deal with on a daily basis. Pay them more. They earned it. Also, reinstate benefits. Really wack u took away the only good thing about the job

I worked at Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

By and large, the workers are tremendous people, dedicated & conscientious, who take pride in their work and are committed to the safety & well-being of their teammates & the pets in their care. Many of the clients are kind, wonderful people who want the best for their pets, and believe that they are providing it by bringing them to this establishment.

    Cons

The policies & procedures put in place by upper management place the staff. clients & their pets in danger of bodily harm. Upper management is largely absentee until something (inevitably) goes wrong, at which point they sweep in & expend more effort assigning blame than addressing the underlying cause(s). Middle management is incapable/unwilling to stand up to upper management or the occasional unreasonably demanding/disgruntled client, choosing instead to pass fault like a game of hot potato. The staff who care, who take pride in their work, who endeavor to deliver the best service possible & strive to improve every day are essentially punished for doing so, as they care about the organization far more (that is to say, at all) than it cares for them. It is made abundantly clear at every opportunity that staff are expendable resources, to be used up & replaced as needed. The permeating attitude is that of a fly-by-night cash-grab, more concerned with separating clients from their money than with actually providing quality service.

    Advice to Management

Pull the plug. Start over, and remove yourselves from the picture.

I worked at Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Open 24 hours. Dog and cat boarding and daycare. On site vet but that is not 24 hours. Most clients are absolutely amazing here.

    Cons

At first they will say they will work with you on your goals and ideal hours. Over time, that will fall away. They give empty promises and never fullfill your agreed upon requests. They treat you unfairly once you have become an asset to the company amd especially if you have any sort of idea or opinion about how to make the company better. They micro manage everyone and expect you to be a tattle tale if you see or hear anything negative that could easily be handled internally. They do not train anyone properly. They throw you into the deep end and see if you can float. Management changes often and so do the rules. They have no set way of doing things and it shows. I used to defend this company but now i see that all they care about is making money. They don't care about the happiness of the employees. Save yourself some time and pass them by. The vet right now is Dr. Boud himself and i am sad for anyone who brings their pet to see him. He doesn't practice anymore unless he has to and when he does, he seems to forget what he was taught or how to teach others about it. This place is a joke. Don't waste your time.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect and trust them until they have proven otherwise. Don't ignore their obvious cries for help and then punish them for it later. Show your cards upfront instead of being two faced. You will never gain the trust or respect that you want from your employees by treating them as though they have already disappointed you when they done nothing of the sort.

    Cons

    The public has no idea

    Advice to Management

Dr. Boyd should stop asking his relatives to write good yelp reviews for his business. Its sad and pathetic and just further reinforces how unethical this place really is.

    Pros

You will get hours since they work you like a modern day slave with no benefits.

    Cons

Negative environment, plays favorites, employees do whatever they want and nobody cares

    Advice to Management

Hire people who ACTUALLY care..not people who PRETEND to care. I worked here for over a year at the front desk. I enjoyed it at first but the manager that hired me left, and the new manager was a joke. Theh wants to be friends with everyone, not an actual manager. Management has caught employees stealing, mistreating animals, and drinking on the job and nobody cares! Blows my mind. They play favorites and don't appreciate the employees that actually put in hard work there. I actually enjoyed my job and got along great with everyone, but my review mostly comes from the people that talked to me in confidence about how they were treated and what they witnessed being there. Its a joke, but if you have hours and to work like a slave with little to nothing else out of it then go for it. I don't have much advice for management because they dont care. The owner and managers only care about their wallets, not the animals. The veterinary part of it is a joke, they dont practice good medicine either. There is only 1 vet who cares but they are not full time there. Oh and NO HEALTH BENEFITS! Don't listen to anyone when they say they are working on it, it's a joke. The owners don't want to put money in their associates and their health. Look elsewhere if you are actually looking for anything worth your time.

    Pros

They promote within. They provide training and opportunity, so you aren't stuck in one position. The pay is good, if you work consistently, and your attendance is good.
Great people and furry friends to interact with.

    Cons

Seem to hold on to problem employees too long.

    Advice to Management

Cut ties sooner with problem employees before they ruin the morale of the good ones!

I worked at Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really hard to find any pros about Dr. Boyds, working one on one with dogs and cats is the ONLY pro, but that's easily over-shadowed by the many cons.

    Cons

Extremely incompetent, immature management. Two-faced management, who never follow through with the career opportunities and raises they say they will give. Their only concerned with image and money, not things like work ethic, employee's happiness, and support. Management undermines and disrespects their employees on a daily basis with a smile on their face. Everyone are subordinates and replaceable to them. Dr. Boyd's is a very corporate. Greedy. Ignorant. Selfish company. They give verbal raises, but do not follow through and deny giving the raise. This place is a waste of time you can never get back.

    Advice to Management

Grow up. Pay more attention to behind the scenes and the day to day functions of your employees and departments. Show that you appreciate the hard work and caring that your employees provide under your name. Keep your promises. Don't lead people on by offering career growth/opportunities and raises to keep them employed. New management is needed entirely.

I have been working at Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love the internship program. You must prove to the management that you are 100% dependable before they will offer you an internship. They will be either paid or unpaid depending on the department, but regardless, you can learn new skills and be put in a different position by just doing a great job and showing the initiative and proving yourself. There are other locations that you can transfer to as well. The sky is the limit for career growth. Two of their doctors started as kennel techs with Dr. Boyd years ago, one of their managers started as a handler, and they sent her (along with two others) to dog training school and Dr. Boyd's paid for it! Proof is all of the place that they do what they say they are going to do!

    Cons

Shifts start early! You can have some long days if other employees call in sick or don't show up. Holidays are really busy as well.

    Advice to Management

Hire more cleaners! Everyone is expected to clean, I would rather not have to do that as part of my job description, but oh well!

    Pros

You can be cross trained in any area of the resort. You can be a dog handler, concierge, vet assistant, trainer or groomer, even management. Was able to try several different areas of interest before finding one that "fit". Will pay well if proven to be capable and a team player, pretty easy!

    Cons

Not too many cons, unless you don't pull your own weight, complain, and cause conflict with other employees and management.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the consistency and the great work! Continuing to maintain the great vibe and culture is important, keep up the good work!
