I worked at Dreyfus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits with a generous 401k match that vests immediately. Also a small additional 401k contribution that Dreyfus provides but you must wait 3 years for it to vest. Great place to learn how to service clients and they also provide you with your series 6 and 63 that they pay for and sponsor

    Cons

Micromanagement is a constant issue with this place. More emphasis on avoiding all risk no matter how reasonable over growing the client base

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like maintaining client base is good enough. We need to grow as a firm to survive in Long Island. Stop being afraid to take a risk because by taking no action you guarantee the operation will be in India regardless.

I have been working at Dreyfus (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to work if you don't want to work more than a 9-5. Management is flexible and plenty of vacation time.

    Cons

Would not recommend to individuals who want their work to be recognized or want to work harder than expected.

    Advice to Management

Focus on company moral and give employees incentive to work harder.

I worked at Dreyfus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Salaries are good enough to get comfy but not good enough to stay competitive.

    Cons

As the subsidiary of a major banking player Dreyfus is often an afterthought in corporate decisions.

I worked at Dreyfus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of very friendly, intelligent, hard-working people.

    Cons

Corporate culture has been subsumed entirely by the very traditional, top-down, by-the-book culture of BNY as Dreyfus people have been steadily replaced by people from the parent corporation.

I worked at Dreyfus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Not much in this section. Most of the time got work done within hours specified so didn't have to stay late. Coworkers were dedicated and hard working. Willing to go that extra step.

    Cons

Where do I begin. Salary was very low for new york city. It was nearly impossible to move up beyond senior level unless you were friends with upper management. Benefits were average at best . Technology was sub par in operations area. Company moved jobs from manhattan to brooklyn. Don't expect to make big money here.

    Advice to Management

Reward hard work and don't take it for granted. Pay fairly. Without employees there is no company.

I have been working at Dreyfus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Global company with tons of jobs, oce youare in, after 2 year youcan aply for anything...anywhere..huge global reach

    Great Benefits

    Cons

High turnover in CEO's..promises never kept and stability is questionable

Regionl Manager are puppets..they give no sales ideas...they manage up, the ONLY way to shine is to pat yourself on the back and make sure all the important people know

Key Accounts for the IBD channel has been slow to get funds in models/rec lists

Shortage of interna lwholesalers-not one to one

Too many conferenece calls during the week

    Advice to Management

The Regional Managers that have been there a long time need to be let go. Dreyfus is trying to enter a new phase and reintroduce the brand...if the managrs in place could not do it then, they can not do it now. Additionally, several of your managers play favorites...it may not be obvious to you, but there is a passive aggressive envionment and it is one that burns whoelsalers out quikly.

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are the people. The work environment is nice. Good benefits. Room to advance and grow.

    Cons

Very fast paced office. Certain deadlines need to be met, so therefore overtime is required. Can be very stressful.
