I have been working at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good and it's base salary

    Cons

My location is unorganized. Poor Commission Structure. Some of the sales advisors are absolutely sleezy employees and will do anything to cheat the system and play with number to make a deal happen, no integrity at all. Some managers know what happens and will turn a blind eye. Some managers and senior SA's are awesome and some are so lazy we have better days when they are not in the store.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere. The pay is good after you sell over 20 cars.

    Cons

Work life balance is very poor. Scheduling is bad. If you close and have to stay late with a customer, you're expected to open the next day no matter how long you stayed there the night before. Not only do you have to sell the cars, you have to wash the cars, deliver the vehicle from other locations (in or out of state), and get deducted when the customer brings the car back when it quits on them. We're asked to provide excellent service but the product is very poor.

    Advice to Management

Most promotions are giving to less deserving team members because of favoritism or inappropriate relationships. Reward people for their hard work.

    Pros

It is a family-oriented work environment.

    Cons

Tax season is very hectic. DriveTime (GA) allows new Georgia residents to purchase a vehicle without a Georgia driver's license. This causes the Operations Advisor job to be quite challenging.

    Pros

Great place to learn how the corporate world works!

    Cons

Long hours, low pay, low recognition for jobs well done. Job is robotic and unrewarding. Looking for fresh young college kids who have no life or work experience to get stuck here and that will work long hours, and will aimlessly follow management believe every single word they say.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing regimes to get into management and promote under performers because they are either related, or naive to the business and believe that upper management walks on water!

    Pros

It's nice when the dealership meets it's monthly sales goal. Monthly bonus is anywehre for $100-$325 extra at the end of each month.

    Cons

The raises are horrible. The hours are long. Lack of opportunity is you are in operations.

    Advice to Management

Pay the operations dept. more money. You can't get your bonuses without us.

    Pros

Great co-workers and loose environment. Great benefits.

    Cons

    Loooooong Hours!!!

Expect to 50-60 hours per week. Expect to work late into the night - sometimes to 10pm. If you are someone who values spending time with family, having extracurricular activities outside of work, and personal development, DriveTime is NOT the place for you. Forget about looking forward to the weekend because you will be working every Saturday but one. Also forget about after work activities. Compensation for sales is pretty slim given the hours you work and the time that goes into making each sale.

    Management-

Expect certain incompetent managers to kill your sales. Your sales hinge on the effectiveness of your managers. If your manager has no people skills (one of mine suffers from a major lack of people skills) it could hurt your paycheck significantly.

Expect managers to follow the operating procedures or "Customer Experience" when it is convenient and to throw it under the bus when it is not. You'll be expected to follow it at all times except when it contradicts what your manager wants to do at a particular moment.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within to get the very best managers. Shorten the Saturday hours or give each sales associate 2 Saturdays off instead of one. Have stores close 1-2 hours earlier to prevent late night (10 pm) sales. Don't worry you wont loose sales and you may get to keep more sales associates.

    Pros

As a Sales or General Manager you are given a company car. This is usually any vehicle on the lot that overall cost is less than 8k. Sunday the dealerships are closed.

    Cons

Hours! You will work at least 60 hours per week. The pay. The salary for SM was 50K and GM 60K now GM is 50K and SM is 38K before other incentives kick in. Overall the money sucks now.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting people because you are friends with them. This happened a lot with Drive Time in Atlanta.
