I worked at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay if you work at high lead volume dealerships. Base salary ($32k for sales advisor to $40k for sales manager) plus commission (based on the number of units sold). Good benefits from health insurance plans, dental, vision, 401K and PTO. Trips to corp office in Phoenix are fun. You'll meet some great people there, and create long term friendship but you'll also meet very negative people. Employees get good discounts on vehicles and service contracts (warranty). Some senior sales advisors and all sales managers get a company driver, which is great. GREAT training at all levels

    Cons

Culture is changing from fun and friendly to more of a cut throat mentality. For the past two years the company has been changing their underwriting guidelines a lot. This year, 2017, it seemed that every week there was a change that benefited the company and frustrated its employees. Pay structures changes every year, making it harder for employees to make more money. LONG HOURS!!!! Work life balance is rough due to the fact that you have to stay until every customer is gone. That means even if it is 12am!!! The longest I stayed was 1am and as a sales manager I stilled had to open the next day at 9am!! ALOT of layoffs this year due to branch closings and re-structure of the company. STRESS and ANXIETY!!! not because of how hard the work is but because of the long hours and negative people working there making your work life very hard. GMs and some managers hold grudges if you try to speak up or give constructive feedback about what they are doing bad. Managers turn the blind eye to negative actions if a sales advisor is selling. I saw a lot of people get promoted because they became friends with upper managers. Co-workers still call me to say that they hate it and want to leave Drivetime.

    Advice to Management

AMPS are not always the best! Specially when tenured Sales Managers having been at the dealership. Stop making so many changes, its hard for employees to adapt to so many changes.

    Pros

Great people base on the department you're in. Decent pay. Awesome benefits

    Cons

A.D's and upper management are not true to their word. They do not rehire.

    Advice to Management

The company would do so much better if you promoted the employees who have stuck with the company for over a decade. If they aren't worth it then you aren't about development and that speaks loudly about integrity.

I worked at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time

    Pros

Lots of great people there management calls them "worker bees".
Nice attractive new building and such (dont let it fool you)
    covered parking

    Cons

    Horrible leadership, inexperienced as well,
    Arrogant college clique Leadership group
Contradictory treatment by who you are friends with (especially management)
See E O pretty much makes all the calls and management runs to his aid, he holds up progress and kills creativity and opinions. as if he doesnt agree you are on shaky ground.
Questionable practices inside - and management not professional - from the inside I heard things you question about " do I want to be a part of this"

    Advice to Management

Get some experience in something other than just Drivetime. New great minds come to help but you push them away because you are scared with others knowledge. Also if someone doesnt think like you its ok! For management to push their employees its ok, Millennial work force there wants their hand held. Really should hire some experienced high level technical people rather than try and go the self taught way. Downsize says a lot how that worked out for you. Culture is great but you cant just give the decision to three or four people on what that is you can change you can allow some diversity. Your new hire documents are contradictory to what the SEE E O treats you like if you are not his type(looks, dress, talk, upbringing) He is very arrogant, judgmental, and I felt some racial tension, maybe through jokes but still did not feel comfortable. I made a concern as I exited but HR pretty much said yeh whatever... STAY AWAY from here! Career Killer

    Pros

Great people and a great culture. They don't try to force the culture, it is just naturally good. Fun times and hard work make for good balance.

    Cons

They are still trying to catch up to the growth of the company and with that they only have 1 style of leadership and promote people who fit that style.

I have been working at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun job, great people at the dealerships to work with, and a pretty decent benefit package. Overall, it is a good company, and some corporate managers actually care about their employees, but they are few and far between.

    Cons

Very little work life balance, especially during tax season. Expect to put in 50+ hours mid April - mid January and during tax season, mid January - mid April, you will pretty much live at the dealership. Compensation is average, but one should never divide their compensation by hours worked....You will not like the results.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should have to run a store one month out of the year to see how it all comes together. Stop over-promising and under-delivering if you want to stop the tremendous turnover.
