I worked at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fixed salary of $35000. Good benefits. It seems like it's a place pretty hard to get fired from.

    Cons

Long hours. 10-11 hour days are not unusual. The commission scale is ridiculous. You'd have to sell a silly amount of car to make the $50-$60K the recruiter says everybody makes.

The amount of paperwork we have to do during/after a sale is ridiculous. They used to have other positions doing this but they're "streamlining".

Also, the company has been downsizing in management. So your promotions opps are limited.

    Advice to Management

Let the sales advisors sell. Spending hours doing things unrelated to selling doesn't help anybody.

I have been working at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Comfortable base salary, relaxed work environment, coworkers are like a second family. GM and managers are great and teaching development. A lot of room for growth

    Cons

Long hours, when it’s slow it’s slow and when it’s busy you don’t have time to eat. Company is going through growing pains and it’s difficult to adjust to fast moving changes

    Advice to Management

Stop putting pressure on your sales advisors when you miss budget. Instead of placing blame find areas of opportunity on improving for the next month

    Cons

I worked at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Best thing and what kept me there for 3.5 years were my coworkers who I still have friendships with outside of DT. Lunches on the weekend were clutch and the culture. Pay is decent as well. If you’re single you can’t beat making 55K plus a year.

    Cons

Work life balance sucks. Hours during tax time are a bit much. No dealership needs to stay open until 8pm or 9pm smh. Sales Managers don’t convey what sales advisors see and experience to upper management in Phoenix. There is a disconnect. They make you work during floods and hurricanes when others are off so DT doesn’t value your safety. Working long hours on Saturdays can told a toll on your body. Cut hours of operations because the stores can be dead for hours and not see a customer.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to write people up for petty things. Learn to value people that have tenure there that will get them to stay. Moreover, don’t give sales advisors false promises and follow through with promises. Franchising and trying to change to more like a traditional dealership is what is running people off. The culture and unique niche DT had is why people joined DT.

I have been working at DriveTime Automotive Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary, and decent benefit package. Monthly schedules and set days off. Leads provided.

    Cons

Poor management on ALL levels. Management extremely lazy, they do not assist in daily tasks or with customers. Managers go above and beyond to prevent from working and get upset with budget isn’t met. No yearly raises. They actually decreased our income by changing the commission plan. No bonus like promised when hired. Extremely long hours, with little added compensation. No dealership structure, unless you are on the managers good list or know them on a personal or intimate level. No incentives

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as the team you preach.
Get involved more with all aspects. Respect is earned it is not an entitlement. Educate yourself on changes before expecting them to be done completely and correctly. Do not eat, or use your personal phones in front of customers. Learn to praise employees, and give suggestions with tact instead of being bold and ruthless.
