I worked at Dropbox for less than a year

    Pros

Upbeat coworkers. Humble/humility as a company value. AMAZING HAPPY HOUR! Great food. Easy commute - BART or MUNI. Awesome CEO. Did I mention the food? Also, ability to promote or convert to full time if you're a contractor.

    Cons

My lead/manager did not like me. I had two leads on the Recruiting Coordination team - one direct report and one above her, and one above her. I got along great with everyone except for the lead I directly reported to - we did not have compatibility and she made me feel as though my job was in jeopardy. The duties at Dropbox were much less demanding and stringent than the ones at my previous tech employer, and I would...

    Advice to Management

I gave my advice to management when I left: train your up and coming managers to be more supportive and less judgmental, and sensitive to diversity, rather than having anger/frustration issues that make people think they're going to loose their jobs. This feedback was specific to one manager.

I have been working at Dropbox full-time for less than a year

    Pros

After having been a fan of the product itself and a long-time user, I was hopeful when I joined that they would live up to my very high expectations. So far I've been very pleasantly surprised to learn that the culture and environment is even better than I had expected. After having worked at several large tech companies in the area, I have realistic expectations when it comes to culture and work environment and often...

    Cons

The only con I can find is the location, although we are in the Columbia Tower and the views are seriously the best in the city, I live on the Eastside and thus commute is a headache for me. Luckily we have a generous transportation benefits and a flexible work environment, so I can work from home as needed. The bus routes are the hardest part, trying to find one that will work with my schedule has needed a little work,...

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep the transparency intact, that's a very important part of this culture and the success of the product itself, so it's great to have that to showcase. As we are still very much growing, and growing at a very fast pace, it's important to make sure that we continue to hire people who will maintain that uniqueness that keeps us at Unicorn status, I've seen cases where bringing in the wrong leadership can tank...

I have been working at Dropbox full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are so many opportunities to make immediate impact, I leave work feeling deeply satisfied and knowing that I made a difference Working alongside extremely talented people, I learn so much every day! It's a really exciting time to be here -- there's nothing like working at a company with this much on the horizon

    Cons

There's so much work to do that I often want to work late I'm constantly forced to prioritize, since there are so many things I could be focused on

I have been working at Dropbox full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are two things that define working at Dropbox: 1) the people 2) management 1) Everyone at Dropbox is incredibly smart and hard working. I love that every day I come in and get to work with incredible people who make me smarter and better at my job. 2) Dropbox really cares about employees. People Ops (our HR) approaches benefits in terms of how the benefit will impact the employee's life. Every benefit they have...

    Cons

The biggest thing Dropbox is looking to improve in the future is career paths. There isn't a clear roadmap for each employee right now, but management is working on it.

I have been working at Dropbox full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Dropbox encourages people to pursue their passions, both within and outside of their core job responsibilities. For example, there is a music room in the office, so people who love playing music can jam. There is a gym, so people who love lifting weights or doing yoga can do that. Often times, the amazing amenities get incorporate into peoples' job functions; for example, I am a recruiter, and often I use music to connect...

    Cons

I think the biggest challenge is work/life balance. Because the office is a fun place to be, sometimes folks have a hard time leaving. I think it would actually help Dropbox if the work culture was slightly less insular. Also, being a fast-growing but still relatively small company, often times there is less structure within job functions; this can be a pro or a con, depending on what you're looking for in your career.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes work allocation is fairly uneven; there should be more clear ways to distribute work, and validate and reward those who put in extra effort.

I have been working at Dropbox full-time for less than a year

    Pros

free food coolest people smartest people gym flexible hours recognition company transparency whiskey fridays giants box shuttle to and from work

    Cons

fast paced environment traffic from giants stadium sometimes makes it tough to get home

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the no-title thing here. It is such a great feeling to have everyone appear on an equal playing field and they can make an equal contribution to the company.

I have been working at Dropbox full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people are amazing! I've met some of the most intelligent, motivated, accomplished and fun people since i've started working here. It really is the people that make Dropbox what it is. The company places such value on Recruitment. I see this first hand working on the Recruiting team - everyone is willing to get involved including co-founders and senior management. I've learned so much since starting here 8 months...
