    Pros

    Honest, trust-worthy colleagues.
Opportunities to grow career and try new types of roles, though this may change.

    Cons

Lack of empowerment . it takes a long time to make any decision because everyone needs to be involved.
The least trustworthy, self-promoting and manipulative folks get promoted into upper management.
Expectation that managers will work 60 - 80 hr/week. Professionals will be on evening conference calls 2-4 nights per week.

    Advice to Management

Make a decision, then stick to it!

I have been working at DuPont (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of good people to work with. The company provides good benefits and 401K.

    Cons

The company is top heavy. Leadership is risk adverse and slow to respond to market conditions.

    Advice to Management

Streamline senior leadership, reward the risk takers, hold people accountable for producing results.

I have been working at DuPont full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It used to be that there were a lot of professional development opportunities and advancements but now the company is going to be separated into 3 and no one knows what will happen

    Cons

A 200+ year old company is being divided into 3 and the historic practices of investment in people are no longer the status quo.

    Advice to Management

So much is happening so fast that there is very little oversight with what is left and what the plan is from the rubble. I think competition will soon recognize this and compromise the long-term viability of the remaining entities.

I worked at DuPont (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are all very bright and very talented. DuPont tends to pick very good managers capable of creating excellent morale and producing excellent productivity.

    Cons

Company is run by executives who are far removed from the businesses. The middle managers are excellent and produce everything asked of them by top managers, and more. But alas, top managers are just too out of touch. DuPont has tremendous challenges because organic chemistry has no future and the company needs to transition to other technologies, so top management cannot be merely good or even great-- they need to be best in class to lead DuPont where it needs to go and that talent is just not there.

    Advice to Management

Decision makers need to be highly connected to the business. Any decision maker who goes from meeting to meeting making decisions based upon Power Point charts is worthless and needs to be fired. People who understand their business don't need endless Power Point presentations.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at DuPont full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady paycheck, plenty of opportunities to work on interesting projects, working conditions are generally OK, interaction with plant locations around the world; working here still looks good on a resume.

    Cons

Professional progression is slow (averaging 12-15 years between mid-career promotions for good performers), and professional training/development is rarely supported if it involves overseas travel. Internal accounting prevents collaboration between groups. Purchasing anything takes several weeks to place the order and often requires follow-up with people located in India. Internet is frequently very slow at the main R&D site (5 minutes to download a 1 Mb journal article). Many of the facilities are in poor condition. Employee morale was low even before the latest lay-off (the largest in 30 years) or the announced plan to merge with Dow and then split into 3 companies.

    Advice to Management

All of your capable professionals are actively looking for work elsewhere. Be prepared to offer attractive incentives to the ones you want to keep.

Clear and consistent leadership strategy with time to implement before changing direction
