I have been working at Ducommun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent benefits and exposure to larger and more competent and capable organizations. Customer base is comprised of world class manufacturers.

    Cons

"Leadership" teams are not comprised of leaders. Management through memo and lack of basic communication skills creates confusion and fosters a reactive rather than proactive environment.

    Advice to Management

Train middle managers how to mentor and develop their team members. Set achievable goals that motivate employees and listen to staff.

I have been working at Ducommun full-time

    Pros

Company with unique manufacturing capabilities and experience

    Cons

Foreseeable issues are not attended to.

    Advice to Management

Management could benefit from establishing better communication with operations. If leadership does not understand the challenges on an operational level. There is no understanding of what needs to change.

    Pros

Depending on the management at the time, it can have good and interesting projects. People are nice and generally easy to work with.

    Cons

Ducommun needs to support more new research and development projects. Work can become uninteresting at times due to lack of new technologies.

    Advice to Management

Invest more on resources and new research and development projects. Don't focus on the beans and focus on engineering solutions and growth of employees.

    Pros

Great company at the facility sites.

    Cons

Corporate has forgotten who and how the product gets out the door.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the plant managers and anyone at the plant level that knows how to run a successful business. They did a great job before you came along.

I worked at Ducommun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are friendly and helpful in obtaining information you might need. Upper management tries to keep the employees informed with town hall meetings. Carson location has employee appreciation days with food and entertainment. Company also has a Christmas party for the location is becoming rarer with a lot of companies.

    Cons

It seems that most of the positions being filled are for manager positions for supply chain. It seems we have more managers than workers. The lower level positions for accounting/ finance are kept to a bare minimum and a heavy work load is placed on the accounting/ finance personnel. Turn over can be high and burn out is assured.

    Advice to Management

Better work/ life balance and get to one ERP system instead of over six systems. Get period closes down to 3-4 days and not over two weeks. Concentrate of important issues and not minor things. Changes at the company are slow. Need to move faster if you want to stay competitive.

I worked at Ducommun as an intern

    Pros

Management is pretty flexible and understanding about school work. I never had an issue whenever I had to miss a day because I had a project or a midterm for school.

    Cons

It seems that the company tries to use interns as cheap labor, they find good interns, but they do not offer them a full time position,so they end up losing them.

    Advice to Management

It would be smarter and have a more positive impact if you were to actually create the budget for a full time position when you find a good intern, who actually makes a contribution to your company

I have been working at Ducommun full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ducommun provides ample opportunity for learning new skills, most of which is hands-on and on-the-job. Ducommun values constant improvement and usually allows lower level employees to suggest and implement process improvements.

    Cons

As a contract manufacturer, the atmosphere can be quite chaotic and the pressure can become overwhelming. Senior management is not very involved.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest management to become more involved and to show the employees that you actually care about their well-being.

I have been working at Ducommun full-time

    Pros

The company have some very seasoned employees. They also have some good Managers, but they also have some who micro manage way too much.

    Cons

There are too many Cons to be listed here. One of the major downfall is that some of the upper Managers like to place unexperienced/unqualified employees into roles that don't suit thise particular employees. In other words, those Managers like to build upon the weakness of the employee, instead of building upon the strength of the employee.

    Advice to Management

The company is failing to win new contracts due to very poor management. At the pace the company is going, this division will be shutting down within a few years.
