I have been working at Duff & Phelps full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The exposure to complex projects and sophisticated clients is excellent, and the people at the company are very bright. You will develop a great technical skill set which will be very transferable to many different positions. High performers can really stand out at Duff & Phelps, and your career progression will be rewarded accordingly.

    Cons

As in anything in finance, work life balance can be difficult, which is compounded with the lack of adequate staff at times.

    Pros

Growing Company with opportunity for upward movement. the opportunites abound for project work and managment work as long as you are willing to take the risks and be productive. the possibilites to get promoted and move into a more senior managment role are there but the road getting there keeps changing and you have to keep adapting in order to stay relevent which keeps you very interested in continuing to work here. also the atmosphere is one of the best across all levels of managment, open door policy is truly in effect here.

    Cons

recognition for promotion is not easily discernable, depending on who you speak with you get 20 different answers on the criteria for promotion. What happened to the good old days where your work and excellent performance were enough to get you promoted for a job well done. you do a great job, your reviews are excellent but you get passed up and your boss gets promoted instead....makes you wonder!!!

    Advice to Management

Promote your staff that is busting their rears to make you look good!!!

    Pros

Tremendous upward mobility, fun working environment, helpful senior management. In any consulting environment, I call the progression to Managing Director/Partner a guantlet. Its a tough road to the top, but once their I think its a very nice lifestyle...most senior MD's pull down $500k+, and barely crack a 40 hr work week.

    Cons

Long hours, small bonus, pay discrepancy between MBA/undergrad at senior associate level

    Advice to Management

    Keep on keeping on -

    Pros

Coworkers. Great working atmosphere where most people become your friends. Pay is decent and everyone is quite open and understanding with everyone else.

    Cons

Hours can be pretty grueling at times. Very up and down as sometimes you won't see your friends/family for a few weeks then have the ability to leave at 5 for a while.

    Advice to Management

At times the hours are a bit much. Otherwise, the coporate culture is great.

    Pros

As a result of the consulting nature of Duff and Phelps, employees are able to gain a high degree of visability within numerous industries and business models. Although the work product is often ultimately very similar to the previous engagement, the different business models and industries keep things interesting.

As a young public company, Duff and Phelps is still establishing its corporate culture and continues to roll out new programs in order to effectively communicate and utilize its resources. With twenty plus offices the company does have a decentralized feel to it. Generally your specific office does things in its own way; however d&p is working to improve this.

    Cons

work levels are highly correlated to M&A markets resulting in a variable work load.

    Advice to Management

Corporate culture is great. Have something for people to do when they have available time in down economy. Communicate, communicate, communicate. What you want, how much time you want it in etc...

    Pros

The people at Duff & Phelps are great. Time is fairly flexable, but a lot is expected of each employee.

    Cons

Due to poor economy comp has been disappointing. This has causes people to leave the company and work falls on the sholders of those who stay.

    Advice to Management

    Thanks!

I have been working at Duff & Phelps full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great Culture. The culture in the Los Angeles office is amazing. As an experienced investment banker I found that the managers and head of the office actually care about your life and do not treat you a like a disposable resource that they can utilize until you fizzle out.
    - Consistent Deal Flow. The directors and managing directors are seasoned veterans that bring in substantial deal flow and can execute transactions efficiently and consistently.
    - Solid Training and Ample Resources. Duff & Phelps has the resources of a bulge bracket investment bank and dedicates a lot of time and money to training employees.

    Cons

    - Limited Junior Staffing. While the company tends to invest a lot of money in each employee, it also limits the number of analysts that it can hire. The analysts get a lot of experience that they normally would not get until they were in their second or third year at other firms, but the investment banking junior staff is consistently very busy.
    - No free Red Bull or Nespresso (yes, a very Wall Street problem...)

    Advice to Management

None. The corporate strategy has been excellent and I hope the growth continues under Carlyle.

I have been working at Duff & Phelps full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Duff & Phelps combines the resources of a bulge-bracket institution with the entrepreneurial spirit of a boutique firm. D&P encourages staff to invest in building a personal network and to be active outside of the office.

    Cons

Duff & Phelps has grown considerably over the last few years and is still in the process of digesting and molding all of its divisions to best serve clients - this has caused minor disruptions in day-to-day operations, but nothing major.

    Advice to Management

    Purchase better coffee
