I have been working at Duke Energy as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Overtime, Easy work environment and laid back bosses. Get your work done and youre fine

    Cons

Not much area for career improvement. Many people stay for life, so not many new openings

    Advice to Management

Be a little more hands on, and go around and check on emplyees more. Rarely see bosses if ever

I have been working at Duke Energy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are the type of person who likes to have others depend on you, I would recommend this position. You are usually the only administrative support in an office of anywhere between 20 and 200 people who all need your help.

    Cons

This is a union position, it is really hard to progress into nonunion positions. There are no union positions that are in this career path, so you're pretty much stuck.

I worked at Duke Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work as long as you can adapt to constant changes. People are hard working and most have worked there their whole lives.

    Cons

Don't get too used to a process because things will change, sometimes it seems without reason. That being said, many companies are similar.

    Advice to Management

Inform every multifunctional group of changes that are happening, prior to them happening.

I have been working at Duke Energy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of really great things about working at Duke. Just look at some of the other reviews. (Modified work schedule, great co-workers, etc.). If you want 'just a job'. This would be a great fit for you.

    Cons

Tons of changes, in processes, organization, managers.
    - As the title says: 'all roads lead to charlotte'. If you are not located in Charlotte and are not inclined to move your chances for advancement is extremely limited. Also contributions of employees who are in the regional offices also greatly marginalized.

    Advice to Management

The employees know and expect change. Just because some changes are slow to implement does not mean that the workers are resistant to the change. Do not diminish the knowledge of an employee who has been doing the same job for longer than you have been a manger. There are insights you can gain if you are willing to listen.

I worked at Duke Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, decent hours, free food when there's a huge storm. Sometimes they'll put you up in a hotel so you can work more hours.

    Cons

Way too many politics, favoritism, and a union that is absolutely useless and just sucks up money (for the call center employees, anyway).

    Advice to Management

Cut out the narcissistic middle management and you'll solve at least 50% of your turn-over.

I worked at Duke Energy as a contractor

    Pros

Most employees are friendly. Flexible hours. Not a bad gig but it will take a long time to be hired on full time in Cincinnati

    Cons

It's hard to get a permanent position at Duke. The union insists on hiring internally and the company caves which leads to the same old ideas all the time. The company has a hard time moving forward for this reason. It seems stuck in the early 1980's. If you do get hired on permanently, which could take years, the union will fight it and file grievances. It's kind of like corporate inbreeding. The same under educated people with the lack of ambition and no desire to do actual work keep getting priority over better and more qualified candidates because the company is afraid of the union.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to look for fresh talent with fresh ideas to change and improve the company
